Brillant idea, thanks for sharing:)

It´s fake and not a good one. Plus qc failed, look at the tilted marker at nine and the blotched ones at 10, 11, 1, 2,3,4....

Lots of fantastic and well thought-through answers in this thread. Let´s try a pragmatic approach:) Simply being realistic a good/upperscale vintage build with gen parts in 2016 will always be in the $1500 range and easily place You somewhere between $2000 and $3000 (if not higher). Talking of Europe AD´s any new or vintage 9k or 10k watch will be between $2000 and $3000 more expensive than in the US (the weak Euro against the USD or CHF since one and a half Years is somewhat deceiving when making comparisons, that doesn´t help us over here or change the fact). Buying a 9k or 10k watch new at the AD and walking out of the store will also set You back between $2000 and $3000 (exceptions granted if it´s a Rolex, the right model and/or You put a lot of time, effort, marketing and risk into re-sellling it). Given both latter scenarios, those would leave You with nothing to show for, while an individualized grail-build in the same range is justifiable in my opinion and may very well be worth it. There´s a fascination and thrill when wearing a beauty like the pcg in the post above and while it´s not "the real thing" the lines between rep and gen get somewhat dissipated along the lines (specially if the vintage gen would cost 8k, 17k, 35k, 60k and other crazy prices that are demanded nowadays and simply make it unaffordable for the common mortal).

Hi and welcome. Being in the EU You will have to pay for expensive shipping, so add some $60. With this in mind You might consider getting a V5 for $298 or go all the way to the V6s. They have flaws too but visually are a lot closer to gen (or less closer to rep), metal paint on the ceramic insert nrs. being one of the main differences but it´s a noticeable one. Maybe wait 1 more week and read up on it a bit, it´s fun and instructive, than decide.

animal welfare vs. cheap straps
Nightwatch replied to theflyingdutchman's topic in General Discussion
The further advanced, rich and developed societies are the more time and money they have to (rightly) reflect about social welfare, animal rights and ecology. Wherever humans are daily struggling for survival anything will be done just to live the next day and there will be some controlling huge profiteers and middleman in between. There are too many people living on the Planet, the individual action imho doesn´t change anything, contrary to what they want to make us belief. Theoretically I wonder how people would think if all the genuine straps could be replaced by a higher quality, cheaper but highly polluting synthetic one, made out of scarce ressources that could have other purposes as for medicine. They would fight this also and the next.. and the next. Most of my straps are cowhide and croc-imitation, poor cow, still like to wear them. -

Lots of activities going on. Good initiative. This will be fun:)

All, at least most TDs carry those models, including Intime. Speaking very generally movement decorations are add-ons to a movement that were not there before. Depending how carefully they were executed or not may have a significant impact on the timekeeping, power reserve and reliability of the movement (dirt get´s inside, hole not well drilled, metal residues that fall into the movement, loose decorative plates etc.) This may or may not happen and normally can be cleaned afterwards at extra cost if necessary. Compare side pictures and top views of the several models.

Sunny and colourful today

Sorry for not agreeing at all with You. Why would You make a general thread "warning" people to be careful with the Omega 9300 movement. It doesn´t help a thing to 2nd hand buyers and just draws unnecessary attention to this hobby. Imagine a new thread for each Panerai and AP release etc. It´s like "warning" tourists to be "careful" on St. Kitts, in Acapulco or Rome - if ppl take and flash their Rolex, diamond rings and reflex cameras they will be mugged anyway - the only way is just NOT to take anything of value. The normal buyer can´t tell rep or gen from each other anyway, so he should just walk into an AD/reputable store and pay the $500 or $1000 premium, he gets a warranty, an invoice and is much better off. Otherwise he risks not only getting a rep but also not getting anything, getting a broken gen, getting a scratched and unserviced gen etc. etc. Leave the 2nd hand gen market to the pros (private or professional).

Hi and welcome. Good You posted some pics. That DSSD is not on the quality level You usually get for a GBP 150 or more rep from the trusted Dealers on here (insert, pearl, dial, engravings are all wrong). It´s a $50 Canal Street level. If You pull the crown and give it one full turn and the time advances +-90 to 100 minutes You will confirm it has the cheap 21j movement inside. Normally they are quite reliable but I´d suppose it´s just poor assembly judging by the rest of the watch. A replacement movement ($35) would fix the issue but the watch is not worth it (except for training purposes). No problem at all, You´ve found rwg, look around, read a bit. Once You know Your ways around just get another (better) rep. This one, as said will make for a good (albeit expensive) training watch to open the caseback, release the stem, see how the movement tabs are attached (if it doesn´t have a plastic retaining ring).
