  1. In the vid 4:49 and 4:50, exactly as I thought: neither the center is aligned nor does it look (perfectly) aligned at 3. Seems he´s using way too many dial dots. are 3 (or 5) not enough? My main interests here are: how to "perfectly" align the dial and if fitting new feet it´s the same, without equipment they will not be exactly at the right location. Is aligning the stem with 3 o´clock and trying to get the best at the center the best way of doing this? Glueing to the movement ring sounds better at first glance. I´ve never done this either and looking for simple solutions as well. Any tip is very welcome.
  2. The most beautiful and incredibly accurate vintage watches I´ve seen them on here. Immense research and detail go into building them with the looks they had when they were factory-fresh and original. And it´s a real pleasure again and again to see them. This is nothing like what the RSCs are doing. From a contrarian point-of-view, the ones who started building Frankenstein-watches (although they are not called so) were the RSCs themselves. By always restoring any watch to a "factory-fresh" and "updated" look along the years, reshaping casesets and crownguards, replacing crowns, tritium-dials and hands, worn inserts etc. by what was available 20, 30 and 50 years later - not necessarily by the original pieces. Too many original vintage watches nowadays just look like any Submariner, Seadweller or GMT from the mid-nineties. The original, unrestored and unserviced ones are really rare - or are new builds that You could only find on here:) Crownguards and crown of a 1680 Comex sub after leaving the RSC (original condition on the left) http://doubleredseadweller.com/comex_1680.htm
  3. Congrats! Great posts and great builds, that´s a fine Rolex collection to have.
  4. Nasty copy-cats and scammers. They copy our posts from rwg and the other forums and put them up there to lure new users, without even changing user names etc. The bad thing is seemingly we cannot do anything against.
  5. All true Gentleman and outstanding members. Very well done. Congrats to all!
  6. Omega back on bracelet today
  7. Sunday leisure: modified scene from "The Deerhunter"
  8. Thanks, these are Dremel-reworked old Cartel 5512 and 5513 casesets. The new Cartel has better shaped/longer crown-guards to start working on it. I´d recommend Supermirrors to get them. The plexi on the first is a T19 from Ebay, the bidirectional bezel assembly is the one they came with. Very nice watches to work on with 26/27 mm dials.
  9. I´s got a fresh and summerly look. It´s a chronograph and with the hour-ring could double as a GMT. I definitely like it:)
  10. Pepping it all up with lots of bright sixties colours
  11. Each decade was a great ride - until from 2010 onwards and since the aftermath of the crisis they are taking it all away. Some group of Politicians invented the modern rule, that everything richly enjoyable must eventually turn out to be harmful. And everything fun or pleasureful has to be prohibited and formally regulated for the alleged greater good and better health/safety/freedom of people. It just isn´t so...
  12. Knowledge on rwg never stops to amaze, deeply impressed once again.
  13. Vintage 1675, does look good everywhere it goes.
  14. Hi and thanks. No modifications for the movement necessary as it came with the base 1655: http://www.ttw8488.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_4&products_id=6561 this ETA-clone replacement with R- dwo would also do with an ETA dial and hands (seller on ebay too): http://www.helenarou.com/hangzhou-6460-automatic-gmt-movement-date-at-300-eta-283646030028362.html. For fitting the all gen parts, You would need a Yuki 3135 movement modified to 3185 (check Yukiwatches) and contact Misikpied to modify it (with movement/parts/service and modification You´re talking +-$around $835). Verify first if this really does fit the 1675 case (and stem height/placement). For interest: what is the overall thickness of the gen 1675 including plexi (without cyclops) measured at the center and at the 2 o´clock corner if You have some calipers
  15. Dial, lume and the gilt hands, seen through that curved plexi, crown match up fantastic with the watch. Could look at it all day:) The insert imho is well on the way but still retaining a little bit too much bluish tint. On the wrist it must be stunning to have.
  16. Tried the toaster with a long metal pin through the center of the dial as You can push it in and out - but it would be better to have several dials around for this kind of "test":) Water based varnish mixed with brownish/reddish colour works well but is permanent. Aquarel may be washed out again. For the lume dots my fav. results are with acrylic paint mixed with raw sienna or yellow ochre (or Nescafé) and lume powder. When still half wet or totally dry, with care, the dots can be popped out with a stanley knife and be re-done - or filed off a bit with fine grit sandpaper, it all just requires time. not too period correct but I just needed lume in the dark, don´t like to use them otherwise
