broken watch for repair or men´s accessories/replacement parts -
Hi and welcome:)

Very old. From around 1750 to the 18seventies for 120 years the Swiss became proficient in replicating first English (Graham/ Norton) later French (Breguet) and American (Waltham) pocketwatches. It was only with industralization and mass-production (IWC amongst others) that this Swiss counterfeiting practice stopped and they started concentrating on high end watch manufacture with the knowledge and machinery formerly aquired. Nowadays its the Swiss FH that hits hardest on the counterfeit market (produced in China) while trying to re-write history themselves by simply omitting the dark chapters of swiss horological history. Brand registration, copyright protection etc. (disregarding some exceptions like Rolex and Panerai) are more of a "modern" practice which only started around 1993 when the Richemont group lawyers started to implement it harshly for every new brand aquired. Times do change....

Winding is an instant tell if it´s a 2813, each 1mm forward will have several clicks, on the 2836 maybe 1 every 2mm. If shaking the 2813 and than stopping the rotor will continue to rotate audibly for a while, on the 2836 it will be less audible and soon stop. When looking close or under light the 2813 will always visibly stutter and hesitate with 5to6 ticks per second, the 2836 will look balanced and smooth (8 ticks per second). With a lupe it´s possible to count the ticks. Plus the crownrotation/ time advancement like Junbug said with the 2836 advancing significantly less.

At home at night I always keep a well lumed wristwatch on the bedside table to check the time if I wake up. I have to be really tired to forget taking it of the wrist. When travelling I often keep it always on the wrist, including at night.

Method 1: They get their hands on a gen watch that can be dissected. This may be any watch, it´s repped because it´s there and can be dissected, for instance a SpaceX:) Method 2: Somebody else replicated it; if somebody did it, it must sell well, get a copy for cheap and replicate it - including all flaws and spelling mistakes; Method 3: a factory is producing a gen homage and there are many rejected casesets, parts, whatever; just print the logo on the dial and some other minor change and You have a new rep; Method 4: just check what is the newest release from any brand and rep it.

Swiss watch exports post worst year since financial crisis.
Nightwatch replied to mule play's topic in General Discussion
The article draws wrong conclusions and just leaves out the most obvious and immediate reason, which was the surge of the Swiss Franc from 15 January 2015 onwards. In 4 days the price in francs increased by 22,3%. While the Richemont Group tried to maintain the export prices to the USA steady, they immediately increased it for the whole of the Euro-zone, China and Japan. A brand new grey market 116610ln that was going for eur 5.900,- by end of 2014 and eur 6.400,- beginning of 2015 is costing eur 7.200,- now (Oct./Nov. 2015). That´s a pretty neat and noticeable increase by +22% in 12 months. -
No problem at all - if You do have the hand removal and hand setting tools, get them cheap or expensive, both do the job nicely. For dial protection You can cut a sharp triangle into a piece of paper like in dBane´s pic. Toothpics, rodico to hold the hands and a compressed air can/duster will do the rest.

Taking off the weekends and some 20 other days for holidays etc. if he averages 2.5 watches per day, he does those 600. If he does work routinely on the same lets say 3 types of movement and 500 of the 600 are really just routine service and replacement of the mainspring&crown the remaining 100 he can spend more time working on complicated issues. If being paid on a - per watch-basis - and having a solid client base it´s a huge incentive. Hobbywise after 2 hours max doing something on a watch I will quit and do something else.

Interesting Business Model - Rent a Genuine Luxury Watch
Nightwatch replied to Quiglda's topic in General Discussion
This would be interesting if I could cash out $200 and test-drive a gen for 1 month. As all other companies doing it (certainly for a reason) the initial plan is always for 12 months and that means cashing out $1800 for the cheapest offer, probably plus postal fees, maybe insurance. It´s more affordable to just buy the $5000-$8000 gen second hand and resell it within a Year. If paying for it, people will beat them up in no time and wear them daily disregarding what they do/where they go. -
5513 Crystal retaining ring; Pls help/need advice
Nightwatch replied to Nightwatch's topic in The Rolex Area
Thanks DBane&Jackflash, great feedback, that helped a lot and re-inspired confidence:) Always use the right tool for the job, simple as that, but now I know where/how to start. -
So I finally received a perfectly sized 31,09mm flatter replacement plexi - but managed to just break the original one by pressing from the inside. Reglue or replace (and how?) I still don´t get out the retaining ring nor can I loosen it with a carpet knife or caseback opener (and I´m not sure which the retaining ring is). Where exactly should I start to push from the outside or inside and where? This is a Cartel 5513, all rings are metal. If I just stop and don´t do anything more, I´d be able to just reglue the one that was in as it´s an irregular but even break all around and it can´t be seen if the bezel assembly goes back on. Just might add, I don´t have a crystal press either, as I like to use tools I´m able to find around the house. The original idea was to press it in using a miniature anvil that has rubber protectors on the borders. I´m feeling lost here and missing the watch, please help.

Looking good and much improved imho. The 3d vintage lume effect is great and totally improves the character/look. Inserts: "expensive"/quality from WSO on the bay, about 38 euros, with a very nice cover on the pearl http://www.ebay.com/itm/310977055461?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT At GBP 10 or 12 better priced alternative from Cousins Uk 5512/5513 insert, I do like it´s looks

Recommendations for building a Tudor Sub
Nightwatch replied to RickFlorida's topic in General Discussion
Hi and welcome. A significant part of the build will be the research and to decide what You will go for spec and budgetwise. Really the simplest is to follow builds You like 1:1 exactly because they have been done, before, parts are probably available and they fit. The nice thing about the Cartel Tudor and 5512s is the approx. 26mm dial size, the metal retaining ring for the crystal/plexi and that it will take a 2840 lowbeat ETA as a direct swap form the DG 2813 versions. If the 2824-2 is appropriate You will decide. With these You can try around with inserts as well. If changing the crown or improving lugholes drilling is needed. Crown and crownguards normally too stubby and fat/short. Supermirrors will get You any Cartel watch, You can look at the models on Trustys or Perfect Clones website, those will be the Cartel. Reliability-wise I consider them to be fine watches even in the most basic versions. My decision was to start very low budget for training, disregarding accurate looks for now, this is what You get: Completely stock in pic 1, small changes in the others
