  1. I am a firm believer that upscale parts suppliers like Phong often suffer the same problem as many in China. Sometimes they are forced to use different suppliers and sometimes there suppliers simply have bad runs. What I have seen is that those who stick to it with him, return items they are unhappy with or actually ask for custom orders end up happy. But there is no question there is a fair amount of luck and effort involved. But until someone else offers better.....
  2. Now I have started looking at Pilot's risk when I travel. The older guys have a fair number of Rolex Subs and the younger ones are waring random cheap ones. Guess Pilot pay isn't what it used to be.
  3. Nicely done. It is a big improvement. Now you have me thinking about my DSSD.
  4. Gorgeous pics. That watch has never looked so good. Wear it well.
  5. I know nothing about light rooms but I actually prefer the first pic.
  6. Absolutely stunning. Wear it well.
  7. A great resource. These things are always somewhat subjective but just having a list of really good reps worthy of consideration is so helpful to those who are dipping their toes in the water.
  8. Long road but you ended up with a very nice watch. Congrats. Wear it well.
  9. Great to hear. A welcome addition to our community.
  10. A common complaint. I just wear it a little loose and the watch still sits in place on the wrist. Some people have bent it but go slowly. I have not.
  11. I have seen the gen (at the 57th St. boutique) and it looked gorgeous. Can't wait to see the rep.
  12. Funny you say that. I always applaud efforts to take it to the next level but I thought the case looked bad and the yellow is the wrong yellow as well. I have seen the gen at the boutique a couple of times now and although pictures distort things neither the carbon nor the yellow look right. But for the sake of those who are buying it I am hoping it is just the pictures.
  13. If it is gen I have never seen a two-tone version of the Day Date/Presidential.
  14. Here is a different approach. Don't stay in Times Square. Stay in an elegant residential area. The restaurants are better and the museums, etc. are around there. You can always take a cab to Times Square anytime you want and if you are traveling with an older relative it is more peaceful. In that vein check out the Hotel Wales around 90th and Madiso. Not a "posh" hotel but very nice, quaint, reasonable (for NYC) and it's room service comes from a wonderful restaurant in the building - Sarabeth's for those who are familiar with that name. It is much more civilized up there and closer to the Metropolitan and Whitney museums among others. It is one of the hotels on the Upper East side where permanent residents check in when their homes are being renovated and it is implausible to stay in them. My 2 cents.
  15. Wow! I am not familiar enough with the gen to know what the needed corrections are but this one looks really great. I wonder if there will be a V2 or V3? Do we think this one is from the standard AP factory or somewhere else?
  16. I wouldn't call it ghetto either. But you definitely learn from experience.
  17. +1. I have one just like it without logo. Wear it well.
  18. If you are confident about the crown seal and a properly greased case back with gasket than I would guess it is your crystal gasket/seal. You would need a new gasket and potentially crystal glue. If that is the case it is not surprising that your watch smith said don't bother. Even that doesn't insure a proper seal. It requires trial and error.
  19. +1. I have a '66 5512 and although the crystal (when I got it) was very scratched it was otherwise in not particularly bad shape. I love the look of bleached inserts on folks frankens but it isn't what I see in real life. What I do see are plain old scratches.
  20. Wow, this model from them looks really good. Kuvarsit has really stepped up their game on this one. I have never been able to figure out when and which parts are the same as other manufacturers. i took a quick look at some of the links and this dial certainly looks improved.
