  1. Agree with majority here that it boils down to what specifications are important to you. I am an avid apple lover, but haven't adopted the iPad craze yet. I did try a Playbook while I was in RIM's hometown of Waterloo last week and I have to say.... that thing is a big piece of crap. No wonder their stock has fallen so much. One other thought..... why in the hell would anyone want to have a camera on a tablet? You want to take good pictures, get a good camera. If it's for skype or some other form of video chat, who cares what the quality is? As long as you can see the person it really doesn't matter. I wouldn't let the camera specs deter someone from buying a good tablet. Besides, the higher the resolution of the camera the more bandwidth you tend to use up and the more dodgy the connection gets. P.S. Yes.... Apple is only out to make money. And they do. Which is why their stock is valued at over $400 USD as of today. They make good products that people find easy to use. What more could you ask for?
  2. That is brutal! I love it!
  3. I have two movements on my bench. One is an old 2836 that I have removed parts from in the past (mainly just the autowind mechanism). I found a 2824 in my parts bin so I thought I would check it out to see if it was working. The keyless appeared to be fine, but when in the winding position, it was stuck and wouldn't wind the movement. I disassembled the movement to get to the keyless works and reset it. Now it seems to be ok, but the odd thing is, when I am in the winding setting, the winding pinion is not engaging at all now. I took a look at the 2836 and it has the exact same problem. I know I have the correct stem, but for the life of me I cannot figure out why the two pinions are not engaging to wind the movement. Any top tips or tricks anyone would like to share with me? Thanks!
  4. Wow that seems far more complicated than it needs to be. I wonder why Breitling did that? I wish I could offer up some advice O/S, but I'll defer to the experts on this one. Good luck with the search my friend!
  5. There is a video and pics for the 7750 (which is somewhat similar in terms of how the keyless works). You can find it here
  6. You raise a good point Seafoam. I do find some of the negativity somewhat annoying. I remember getting super excited about a new rep I had just gotten only to have it torn to pieces by some of the WIS's here and then the allure was ruined for me. I think in some cases we are all a little guilty about pointing out some of the many flaws of our members reps and maybe that is somewhat counter productive. If you like the watch, then good for you. Let it make you happy as long as it can. On the flip side though, pointing out flaws in the watches has most likely contributed to the rep dealers pushing for better quality reps (which we have been getting lately) Either way, I am here for the friendships and the vast horological knowledge so I can continue what I believe is my part of the hobby - learning to work on and repair/build watches. That (along with the friendships) is my favorite part about being a member of RWG
  7. Wow! A lot of PAM's today! Switched to my other 44mm watch. The Stølås for Monday
  8. I usually leave the watch in time setting position. Generally I just do it by feel. I can usually tell just by taking it nice and easy when I am removing the stem. In some cases (like with the 7750) I find it works better taking out the stem in the normal position, but it has differed each time as well. Again, for me it is just a "feel" thing. What ever option you choose, you shouldn't have to force it back in. It should go nice and easily so don't push on it too hard. Good luck!
  9. Bear Proof? Is there really anything that is Bear proof?
  10. Nice comparison, especially given the time crunch you were under! BTW, is the jar of candies Double Bubble?
  11. Check out this one here on fleabay. I bought one of these to practice on. It's a good price and a good movement too!
  12. Love your enthusiasm about breaking out the "new toolkit", but I will caution you that the 7750 is not for the faint of heart I'd start off with a 6497 hand wind if you want something to practice on. As for the 7750 info, check out Ziggy's post about it here I also did a pictorial tear down when I fixed a friends keyless works which you can find here P.S. I liked your post in the "I' miss this hobby"
  13. Looking pretty good. It's hard, isn't it? All those reflective surfaces?

That is such a beauty K! Love that shot! Mine's nearing completion now
  15. Now that's something you don't see everyday! Well done!
  16. Thanks R! Yeah the 176 is a beauty as well!
  17. That's like a great bottle of wine. Save the opening for a really special occasion
  18. Not a job for me. I quite like being a part of this community and since I am always around anyways, it was a simple transition to being a member of this great admin team
  19. Agreed BT. Haven't been too excited lately - that is until my 112m arrived yesterday I had to break out my camera for this bad boy. (Review is in the Panerai section - in case anyone's interested) While we may have come a long way in the rep world and far surpassed the older reps that got everyone excited, I think the H-factory offerings are really stepping up the excitement. I am really looking forward to what they come out with next and that has put a little bit of spark back into my enjoyment of the rep game. On the other side of things, guys like jmb who turn out cheap, fantastic looking reps from his own mill shop also makes me smile. I love his approach and I look forward to reading about each watch that he comes up with. Same thing with the projects that LHOOQ have been working on lately. Yes, the super expensive franken's stir up a lot of discussion and praise, but so do some really well written reviews and great photos. I think one thing we are missing is the great photo reviews. Guys like you BT, and pugwash, and LHOOQ and Ubi who take the time to compose some great looking photos (and Lani back in the day). I keep trying to strive to take photos as good as you guys and I hope you all will continue to do it as well. I would never have even attempted to get better if I hadn't seen those pics from you By-Tor.
  20. Looks like its a silk screen painted on top of the bridge.
