With this older type shock spring, the "3 notch rule" never applied. Only the Novodiac spring has 3 notches. Older Incabloc (this version (in original post) was introduced in 1997) have the tabbed spring shown in the original post.

I think the real trick in a top quality timepiece is that it's tuned to hold it's timing in the 5 standard positions. That takes a talented watchsmith and some time to accomplish.

I have been using it for a long time, as well ... all I can say is that if you are getting poor results, you need to adjust the mic gain up or down ... too loud is just as bad as too soft. I bought a $20 high quality iphone external mic for use with the app. As for the bad reviews on the app page ... you just KNOW that most of them are trying to time their watches through the closed case back and have no intention of opening it themselves. The app is not perfect .. it does crash quite often .. but it's a nice little tool.

Both of the inserts you are showing are TrevorTime inserts. Neither one is from the Noobfactory. If you look at any Noobfactory DSSD, you will see that the top of the insert triangle is very curved. You were sent the wrong piece. Your triangle is perfectly straight.

The PT classic 1680 reps all have the datewheel which is too far to the left. Yours is exactly like all the others, not a problem specifically with your watch. You can open the datewheel window with a tiny file and touch up the paint ... the PT window is very very small compared to Gen .. you can find or create a datewheel with the proper offset .. or you can change dials completely. Be aware that if you upgrade to a Clark crystal, the magnification bubble will be in the wrong place as well, compared to the hole in the dial.

If you drop in the Miyota, be aware that they do not hack. When the Chinese copied the Miyota, they improved it with a hacking mechanism. The a21j can be bought for pocket change at Cousins or O.Frei online watch making shops. $15 ....

95% of the pearls sold in the World are cultured pearls ... there is almost no such thing anymore as a pearl necklace made from wild oysters, gathered by divers .. even Mikimoto pearls from Japan are cultured. Just make sure that the clasp is good quality .. nothing ruins the illusion of an expensive looking necklace faster than a piece of crap clasp. The pearls in the Groupon deal are mixed sizes and mildly bumpy in shape ... some people like that, tho ... my wife has almost the same necklace and without examining it in your hands, you could not tell they are bumpy. Don't expect this inexpensive "real" pearl necklace to be as perfectly shaped as a set of perfectly round plastic costume pearls.

eBay is full of cabochons of all colors and cuts for very little money.

If you look at my side-by-side wrist shot, a few posts above, you can see that they wear very differently. The 45 seems huge, as if it was 10mm bigger, not 3 !!!
