has anyone ever built one of these white 1016 explorers ?
jmb replied to kin tama's topic in The Rolex Area
Let me see what I can come up with! How 'bout a white Space Dweller? -
I think DVNE's looks great without it! As I remember this was rather nerve-wracking... I used the end-mill, which won't try to "follow" the hole if fed slowly, to effectively move the hole centerline down and inward just a little...

I am mulling over trying to make a fixture to hold a case vertically on my engraver. I could possibly engrave a number, manually index it for the next number, etc. I don't know if this would work or not but a proper CNC controlled rotating axis/fixture costs a bit more than I can spend right now...

I have "drilled" one of these cases. If you drill them the standard way you basically uniformly enlarge the existing hole which quite often will get ugly on the super thin lugs. What I did was use .050" carbide end-mills to relocate the hole just a bit to get it away from the top edge of the lug. It turned out nicely but was somewhat expensive as it took 2 end-mills as they are 1 - very small, and 2 - very brittle. Even relocated to where they don't break out the thinness of the lug makes 'em look a bit strange, to me anyway...

One of my favorites...

M, that may be a mis-print. I think you are the only one that got a T21 bezel... Or, maybe I fat-fingered my sales thread - I better check!

He lost me when he started in with the conspiracy stuff but he either buys a gen or has someone like-minded build him a good franken...

Rolex Seadweller 16600: Advice considering crystal needed
jmb replied to Ticktick's topic in The Rolex Area
This has always been a sore-subject for anybody contemplating an SSD. Adrian is much more "energetic" than I and I commend him! The couple I messed with I just glued in a 2.5mm thick crystal and decided not to do any more! I talked with Jules-Borel about making some custom crystals (really not that expensive in the grand scheme of things) but they said they could not accommodate my specs on their machine due to the thickness. Here's the plain 2.5mm epoxied in place... -
Is there anything better than a Sigma Dial Vintage Daytona?
jmb replied to danielv2000's topic in The Rolex Area
Fantastic... creep! Someone finally one-upped M in the vintage Daytona game! -
I have one or two left with the "maxi" markers. I'll measure one tomorrow and PM you. I have no idea, though, what size dial the TC case takes...

where can i get a movement adapter for gen 5500 case?
jmb replied to kin tama's topic in The Rolex Area
The 5500 a 34mm case? I have some 34mm Tudor cases so I wonder if the ring would fit your application? -
There is a little sheet metal plate that covers up the keyless and it's a bugger to put an overlay on the stock 2824 DW and not have the overlay drag on aforementioned sheet metal plate...

If you can find a "seconds at 9" version they are solid or an a21j version if you can stand the sweep hand turning all the time...

WARNING TO ALL WATCHMAKERS - AVOID MEMBER JACK219

Thanks... -
Tudor used to make an alarm model called "Advisor" but I doubt anybody is repping it and I found one gen on fleabay for $2350 OBO. They also added a new Advisor to the Heritage line but at around $5700 it's a bit above your limit... I also see some old vintage Tissot mechanicals for pretty reasonable on fleabay...

Some People asked to see flying of the F 16 fighter jet
jmb replied to Ezio's topic in General Discussion
The F16 is an awesome little fighter, and quite the bang-for-the-buck as they were fairly "affordable", considering. They used to build 'em just few miles from me and used to fly over the house often. The planes I worked on in the service had propellers! -
Just for grins...

Nice to see the finished product, you did an exceptional job on the entire build. I have been toying with the idea of writing a program for the lathe to trim down the lugs as I am way too lazy to do it by hand! If somebody wants a more "domed" crystal, and tells me beforehand, I can machine the bezel to match up with the T21. IIRC the OD of the T21 is a few thousandths larger than the T22. If you look back at some of LHOOQ's builds I think one of them used a T21. I think the case on the right has the T21...

Hmmm, it's for that uber rare GMT Submariner!
