beat me to it. i was just about to post this.
-
someone on the forums made and sold them. i remember seeing a few on sale not too long ago. now its gonna drive me crazy until i can find it. ill update if i do.
-
in thailand. really, thats about the only place. they pop up sometimes in M2M. usually modded and very expensive.
-
thats pretty nice. i would def check if its in stock. i dont think a lot of these are made these days since the ceramic version came out. id be interested in one too. seems to have a decent rehaut and nice lug holes. could be the start of a wonderful build.

1675 need help finishing it (need movement ring)
Bc1221 replied to cib0rgman's topic in General Discussion
Yuki sells them. I believe you can find them on ebay as well. Looks great! -
ive seen the 42mm reps and ill agree it does look pretty nice but i dont think rolex will ever do it. the fanboys would go nuts for changing their holy watch. its such a classic piece, it would be hard to do a major change. they caught a lot of flack i think for the new case shape. i couldnt imagine if they changed the size of the watch. isnt the DSSD like 42mm? maybe they can offer that with a sub dial minus the OGEV text.
-
great info! i didnt even know the crowns came apart like that.
-
ive been thinking of trying to put one of these together as well. one of my fav models. isnt the date wheel a bit too modern for this model though? it should have a open 6s and 9s DW if i recall correctly... either way, thats one hell of a build. wish ST still had those cases in stock :\
-
i would never rely on the rehaut to be perfectly aligned all around. it happens sometimes but its rarely fully aligned. your better bet would be to get a vintage model where there is no engraved rehaut. i personally think daytona looked waaaay better back in the day. the vintage models also come in seagull ST19 hand wind movement which imo is 1000x better than a A7750. if youre dead set on a modern tona though, youll just have to toss the dice and see how it turns out. no TD is gonna reject the watch based on the rehaut not being perfect. good luck

No MBW and PT are completely different. Email angus before you order. He hasn't had any vintage subs and sd in stock all summer. Last I checked, they were still unsure when and if they'd ever be back in stock. I went with a cartel 1680(in a 5512 case). It took a Clark plexi but I did have to mod the crystal retaining ring to get a good fit.
-
the SEL fitment looks a bit rough but the rest of the watch looks pretty good. i doubt PT will do much about it honestly.

i never expect too much from QC pics honestly. its always been my understanding that the QC picture process was to make sure its the watch you actually ordered and no obvious flaws. i dont expect the dealer to go through every single watch and make sure everything functions as it should. i guess ive just been lucky for the most part except the one time i got a watch that looked completely different than the one i ordered but the same model. not really much you can do about it honestly. recently got a watch with stripped tube. it sucks but its not really worth spending $50 bucks to ship it back and end up in a black hole and me be SOL. keep your expectations low and youll be ok. its sad that we pay a lot of money for watches that show up busted up at times but i guess thats the risk we all choose to take. i usually try to stick with M2M sales from seasoned members but i have had to order a few from china and its always a worry until it shows up.

gen spec 2mm spring bars fit cartel cases without mods? interesting.. might have to order a set and try. if you wanna do a economic tudor snowflake build with no date, get a cartel 1680/5513. it will come in a 5513 case. buy the blue snowflake dial from Yuki. these will fit the cartel case. 26mm yuki Snowflake hands get a atheya 702 crown+tube. much cheaper than gen crown and tube and you get the same look for $35 bucks. a clark plexi. sell some of the other parts to recover some of your losses. the main issue with cartel cases is the stubby crown guards. you can work these to a decent look if you know your way around a dremel and a polishing wheel. add a slim 702 crown and itll look the part of a polished 40 year old watch. after some work, this is what mine looks like on my first attempt at modding. still need a atheya 702 crown bc that big rep crown sticks out like a sore thumb but im happy with it. its not perfect but we all learned somewhere right?

Building a Rolex 5513 PCG Submariner. Finally done !

Wow. Amazing work on the cgs. That polish job is amazing. I think "polex" case is MBK though. Not cartel.- 28 replies

if you look at BKs feedback, youll see it seems to be worth it to everyone. perfectly aligned dates with the right font. aligned rehaut aligned cyclop applied correctly. better movement. in the end, its up to you. if you were capable of fixing little errors like DWOs and rehaut aligning, id say just stick with a noob. if youre not comfortable fixing these minor tells the factory almost always messes up, id say go with a BK. i personally am not a fan of the SubC so id prob buy a TC if i got another sub. for now, im fairly happy with a early noob 16610. i did have to align the dial and date wheel and get a new insert for it though. read up on BKs section and see what all he does. he actually mods them quite a bit. he also stands by his products. if you run in to problems, hell fix it for you. you cant do that with a factory noob. at best, you might get a discount on your next order.
-
BK's subC is the noob subC he just mods them to be better. Sellita movement his own Date wheel overlay re-align the cyclop if it needs it..etc
-
im pretty sure most dealers can get this for you. i dont think ive ever seen one in real life but id guess its repped as good as a regular daytona. i think trusty time has them.
-
you spend a lot of time with a dremel, sandpaper and polishing wheel. a LOT. basically, you sand the outside of the CGs. theres a lot of material there so you just sand it to a pointier finish and make the curve a little deeper. it prob took me a hour or so but i was being extremely slow and careful. sand a little, check against pics. repeat. i also took the tube out and sanded the inside of the CGs a little bit so it would appear a little deeper. i think once i get a smaller crown in there, itll look better. turned out decent from where it started i think. plus, i figured it gives it a "been polished for 40 years" look. this is my practice watch. ill eventually get a nicer one if PT ever gets them back in stock. those have much better CGs to work with. didnt wanna jump in to the world of modding on a $300 watch. really not bad for the price and ive had fun with it.
-
i do believe there is a better rep of this. with the right (skinny) min hand. i think toro sells it. if i was getting a exp1 rep though, id go with the 36mm. its repped much better.
-
found some old pics of mine. the crown guards take a LOT of work. they start out pretty much looking like SubC crown guards. square and stubby. after a relume i wasnt happy with the lume so i have a new dial and vintage lume on the way along with a atheya 702 crown and tube.i think the smaller crown will completely change the look. its honestly not a bad watch for $118 + $35 for a Atheya crown and tube and + $10 bucks for lume other than that, i just sprayed the dial with a matte varinsh bc the stock cartel dial looks kinda weird imo. its a brownish/black with bright yellow markers. looks way too new. the high beat 21j is wrong but im honestly fairly impressed with this movement. date flips over nicely at midnight and doesnt do a slow change like the usual 21j. all dates are well centered and the right fonts. the cyclop magnifies waaaay too big though. could use a gen spec plexi. overall, im very happy with it. i wanted to give modding a try and since PT wasnt available, i just picked up a cheapie cartel.
-
yea.. i think the list would be shorter if you pointed out what was right about this one.. the second hand looks ok! def a cheapie canal st special.
-
i wish i could post pics of mine waiting on a new dial and a atheya 702 crown+tube.
-
TC for the 16610 sub, BK for the 116610 sub. best out of the box subs. not cheap though.

Perhaps I finally understand why Rolex is so popular.
Bc1221 replied to fitmic's topic in The Rolex Area
im not a fan of the maxi-dials. idk. i think the proportions are way off. the regular dials look perfect though. as far as the SubC goes though, this is one of the better variations. i HATE the thick CGs on the subC's
