Mark can show ya. keyless works are a [censored]. i almost prefer the 2813s if i wanna tinker because those arnt as tempermental with the stem release. glad you got a local guy to fix it. hope it doesnt cost you too much. ive seen prices from $30 to $100 to fix a keyless.

Something fishy about this submariner on ebay............
Bc1221 replied to JaFeel's topic in The Rolex Area
He has 8 sales. Few negative. Doubt he has either or those watches. This thing has scam written all over it -
out of curiosity, what did they quote you for the repair? and what did they say was wrong? a new eta clone will cost about $100 bucks. most forum watchsmiths will do a movement swap fairly cheap. my guess is, around $200 and you could have a brand new movement installed and ready to go. that is the worst case scenario. my guess is, the watch prob could be fixed. your local watchsmith prob just doesnt want to deal with it so he quoted you a insane price to make you go away.

that spider dial is a beaut! cant wait to see how that turns out. stunning builds

deadmau5 actually got a cease and desist letter from ferrari for doing that wrap. i think its because he altered the ferrari logos or something. he eventually sold the car. http://thesupercarkids.com/ferrari-takes-legal-action-against-deadmau5-purrari-458/ i think its hilarious. you pay $300k for a car, you should be able to do whatever the hell you want to it.

in my picture? theres nothing wrong with the keyless in that picture. i can push the stem in and start winding. its a movement i took apart after breaking the second hand pinion while removing hands. i just posted it to show that its virtually impossible to mess up the keyless on a 2813 by pushing the stem release button. there is a plate that puts opposing force on the plate that releases the stem. i literally pushed the button until it went way past the releasing point. keyless stayed in tact.

Argh. You've jinxed me. Now it's happening on one of my builds. Nothing else to do but take the whole thing out and reinstall and hope for the best. Brand new crown stem and movement too! Dammit

That looks pretty damn close too! I remember when fossils were like $60. Last time I went and looked they were like $400. Wtf?
-
I looked at one of my dead 2813s and honestly, it's virtually impossible to disengage the keyless works on these. There is like a fail safe plate that goes over the stem release portion. I even took a toothpick and pushed it as far as I could. Stem still popped in afterwards no problem. Not sure what you broke but I'm pretty sure it's not the keyless. Order a few from oferi. The shipping costs as much as another movement so you may as well get a few. Good luck.

wtf. i typed out a long response to this and it didnt post i guess.. like others have said, it could be the stem is not perfectly centered with the movement. take the back and movement tabs off and kinda move the movement around a little to get it nice and centered. if that doesnt fix it, take the stem out and put the stem in with the movement still loose. jiggle it a little to make sure its centered. put movement tabs back on. if that doesnt work, it could be a stripped crown or tube. be careful though. if the stem is bent going in to the movement, it can screw some things up. i had a friend whos watch did this. ended up having to do a movement swap. his just stopped working all together. i had originally thought it was a stripped crown but after i took the movement out, the crown screwed in smooth as butter. whatever you do, do not force it. if it gets stiff at a certain point, unscrew it and re-try. if it doesnt get past a certain point, dont force it greasing may help. if you have some cape cod and some tweezers, you can clean up the threads a little. that helps sometimes.

Lately, it's been my 1680 (red) Or the good ole noobmariner

Unless your crystal fell off, that ring isn't needed. That's to hold the crystals in place All you need is the tension washer which can be bought on ebay cheap Or you could make your own out of a sheet of aluminum

I can sell you mine. I honestly don't like it. Wore it once and has been sitting in a drawer oiled since. It's a brown leather with 5 brushed rings It's just too bulky for my skinny wrists. Pm me if you're interested. They won't damage your lugs. Just keep the rings away and pulled down and you'll be fine

Last time I checked with PT, they had no vintage subs or seadwellers in stock. I've been asking about once a month all summer. Trusty and PC has the same stuff but trusty I think is a little cheaper. I have a few cartel 1680s which come in 5512 cases and they're not bad. Don't know about their 5517s but I do remember seeing them. I think they sell the ones with the optional lug holes. Meaning they're perforated or something and you can drill through them. Gem should have no lug holes but I'm sure you knew that. You'd need to source some better gen looking hands. The minute hand is wrong. I think some people use omega hands. Good luck and post pics. Thought about doing one of these or a 5512. I have vintage lume that needs to be used! Lol

its not hopeless yet man. i did this once and thought i was screwed. almost ordered another movement and everything. the stem would not completely set. it was stuck in time setting position and made a horrible sound. i thought it was done. decided to take it out and start taking the parts off it. i tried the stem one more time after the movement was out to turn the hands to 12 and it popped right in! take the movement out and try to pop the stem in outside the case. if it works there, then it was just not aligned properly. dont give up yet and def dont go deeper and start ripping parts off. when you put the stem in, just get it in a little, then turn, push in a little, then turn. just kinda tinker around and it will probably work.

Anyone having problems with taking out links in GMT master 2?
Bc1221 replied to retrojun's topic in The Rolex Area
so... were you trying to push screws out thinking they were pins? ive done the opposite on faux screw pins. i sat there with my screwdriver for a good 10 mins before i realized they were pins -
some 2813's need a little force to pop in. the 2 high beat 2813s i have almost feel like they wont go in unless i push a little. then it just pops in. try turning and pushing. also make sure the stem hole is lined up pretty straight with the tube. i noticed on some of these, the stem will sometimes not go in completely if its not straight. i highly doubt you mucked the keyless up. its pretty freakin hard to do on these movements unless you took a needle point and pushed the stem release as deep as itll go.

Apple/i Watch reveal! what do you guys think?
Bc1221 replied to magicpimp's topic in General Discussion
i really dont see the point of these except for fitness features. it basically does what the phone in your pocket does but on your wrist... idk.. i think its silly but curiosity will have me visit a apple store soon im sure. if it was a $100 or $200, maybe id get one just to play around with but. almost $400 ($600 for a gold plated one), ill pass. if i had to have a smartwatch, id prob be more interested in the mechanical/smart hybrid kairos is working on. thats a pretty good looking mechanical watch with a touch screen. -

Are you sure they're not screws? -
those are 2 different dials. very simliar but small differences. toros has the concentric sub dials. this version is slightly bigger and will take a gen plexi. the rehaut on these are brushed. the trusty version is slightly smaller. subdials are recessed but its really hard to tell unless you hit the light just right. slightly smaller comes with a sapphire dome. rehaut on these are black and look much better imo. i had the version trusty sells and honestly, you cant go wrong with either version but if you plan on putting a gen plexi on it, go with the toro version.

Bc1221 replied to errrlend's topic in The Rolex Area
i was getting ready to say... theyre not supposed to line up to the end of the lugs. your end links are fine. as long as theyre isnt a giant gap, youre good to go. -
you could just order the 1680 from PC or TT with the ETA 2846. then, all you would have to change is the dial, rework the crown guards (pretty easy to do if you know your way around a dremel), get a atheya 702 crown + tube (these tube should screw right in to a cartel case without being re-tapped), and a new plexi. watch will cost ya about $250 shipped. Yuki 5513 dial another $100 Atheya crown and tube $35 Clark T19 plexi $20 so about $400 bucks and youd have a pretty nice 5513. bezel you can always upgrade later. cartel bezels dont look too bad but id def recommend a new insert off the bat. too many options when you start getting in to modding. welcome to our madness.

i thought this is how PTs always were...? ive never been able to buy one.. theyve been out of stock since like may. maybe i should check now....

Help with sourcing tube and crystal for a cheap 1016 replica
Bc1221 replied to tomyeshuah's topic in The Rolex Area
clark plexi should fit that. might need to sand the plexi or the retaining ring. whichever is easier to you. thats a damn good looking rep.
