  1. Eh. Never really was a fan of Mille. a watch that costs more than a typical mansion shouldn't come with rubber straps. Some of his designs are cool but I've never been a fan of square/rectangle watches. Not to mention the neon colors he likes to use. RM watches would go great with some LA Gears.
  2. I believe the 21j GMT movements are DG3804. They can be bought from oferi or cousins Second hand pinions on the 21j movements are incredibly fragile. I hope you at least didn't break it with the pinion in the second hand. Did that once and had to order new hands and a new movement. Be careful with those second hand pinions. Don't get greedy and try to pull all the hands at the same time. Always pull the second hand first and do it very carefully. Those second hand pinions are thinner than a sheet of paper. Good luck
  3. There are so many variations of day dates and datejust it wouldn't surprise me. Then you have the whole custom dial market. Very popular for this model. Some are pretty cool. Some just look horrible
  4. Never had a problem with mine. The crown gets stiffer if it's pretty wound but I rarely hand wind my watches.
  5. Gen dials for the DJII are waay too expensive right now. They're on eBay for like $800 bucks. The rep dial looks great honestly. I'd get a gen crystal before a dial. Those are going for $500 so I'll prob just pop a Clark's on there.
  6. Meet at a local AD and have everything authenticated.
  7. According to his blog, the reversing gears were fixed on all of his movements he had. I believe he said the manufacturer took them back and fixed all of them. I wouldn't worry
  8. Yea. It's a rep. The dial color changes quite a bit (my fat part) I've seen it go from a deep purple to a light blue. Really love the design. The markers seem fine to me. I wouldn't mind a relume one of these days to get the right colors. It's all green and I believe the markers are supposed to be blue. For a rep though, it hits all the marks minus the no ar cyclop. Not a fan of the clasp so I'm gonna prob switch it to a gmt clasp. Need that double lock! I always feel like it's gonna fall of my wrist. I would have never ordered it tbh. It just wasn't my thing but it came up in a trade and once I had it on my wrist it was all over with. Need to get a new crystal. The one I have is foggy at certain angles and it drives me mad. Gen crystals are too pricy. Tryin to see if clark has one.
  9. Why do all noob rolexes lately seem to have the dates left justified? I've noticed this on a few noob rolexes. My DJ included. The 20s look terrible IMO.
  10. Hehe. Understandable. I do love the DJII way more than I thought I would. I got it in a trade. Figured I'd try it out. It's a rep but a damn good rep honestly. The only problem is the LEC is typical rep LEC and the bezel gasket is stretched so the bezel doesn't sit completely flush. Only noticeable to the OCD folks like me. Seems to be gen spec build. Here's a pic Even the rehaut lines up pretty well.
  11. Take it to a watchsmith. They could prob restore that whole thing minus the dial. Beautiful piece
  12. naw. the hand stack looks right. everything about it looks right but yea.. that date mag seems low.
  13. beautiful watch. take the crystal off and sell it to me. RSC will get you a new one. my DJII is begging for a new crystal.
  14. eh.id rather have the classic SD. looks much better imo. none of the ceramics look good to me.
  15. I think for a beater, a 21j datejust is perfect. It's cheap. It'll run fairly accurate. The only trouble you may have is the dates not being perfect. When it dies, it's easy and cheap to just replace the movement. I have no idea how old your daughter is but I know women and they beat the hell out of their watches while their purses remain spotless. I'd go with a explorer or something without a date complication though. Just to not have to worry about that pesky overlay
  16. Here's mine with a Clark 25-295 no cyclop 1.8mm with a 2.7mm gasket
  17. ^^ get a flat crystal. i prefer that look too honestly. gives it a nice SD look
  18. I forgot what I bought from them but it was junk and the guy never responded for a return. Haven't bothered with them since. The only eBay watch parts guy I prefer to deal with is Gary Clark. Can't say enough good things about him and his products. As for the insert, I think someone on rwi is selling a gen. Might still be there.
  19. i dont even know how you would even tell honestly. my TC bezel looks just like that... *shrug isnt it a bad idea just to replace that part? since the retaining ring, washer and bezel all are such a tight fit.
  20. wtf? did someone just spray WD40 on the movement? smh. im always weary of "serviced" watches that arnt from known watchsmiths from the forums. there are plenty of great watchsmiths on the forums that do work at very reasonable prices. makes no sense to take it to some local hack who could care less about a replica. meisiekped, Katt, Vac, Pbdad, Ko67, Ssteel, KenNY.. just to name a few. ive never had work done by any of these guys buy ive seen enough posts praising their work to know that i would get amazing work from any of them. i do have a local option but his prices are pretty high so i dont use him.
  21. Aging a watch is fun but don't get carried away. I think people sometimes forget that it's a water tight watch. There is absolutely no reason for the dial to look wrinkly. Look up some actual gen watches and age based on that. L Usually a relume and a matte spray is more than enough to give it a proper 40 year old look. It doesn't have to look like it's been sitting in the bottom of the ocean IMO. With that said, I would guess he used varnish + water mixture to age the dial. Or possibly baked it. You can get a similar effect by holding the dial up to a halogen lamp. (It'll start bubbling up) To age the case, I usually just dremel all the edges and then polish the whole thing. If you're gonna sand the hands, they will probably turn bronze. Good luck. Cheapies are fun to play with but it's also real easy to get carried away aging. I think some of the best vintage builds are usually clean and look like they've been sitting in a safe for 40 years. Just some puffy lume is enough sometimes
  22. Save your money and just get a TC v6. There really is no other sub.
  23. Sofia vergara is supposedly a huge rolex freak. She's also been known to wear reps too. I think a lot of actors in TV and movies wear their personal watches or their agent gets one for them from the company. Im sure panerai would be more than happy to give ed oneil a watch to wear when they spend half the episode telling about it. "Is it the panerai? With the beautiful dial...?" Yea. I'm sure PAMs came flying in the mail for that episode. Much like the episode where it was the entire episodes mission to get Phil the new iPad. It's all product placement.
