This place has honestly ruined me for just accepting any Rolex as-is genuine... Knowing what I know now, having built a 5513 with a 1520 movement, owning 2 other gen's and seeing how easily replicated they are... I'm just totally over it. The idea of people being snobbish about a Rolex is silly. The idea that some of these great watches out there being purveyed, as POTR says, by revered authorities claiming that they are 110% original and genuine is foolish given Rolex's terrible service records and history of swapping parts around as well as "cobblers" getting at them over the years. For example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ROLEX-VINTAGE-DAYTONA-6264-PAUL-NEWMAN-CHRONOGRAPH-1968-/151533742977?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item23481d6b81

Not sure if this one qualifies as "dumb enough" because it's only a few hundred bucks...(only)... or just as incredibly poor taste... http://www.pure-time.com/product/shock-resist-yg-yellow-gold-dial-on-black-rubber-strap-quartz/

Beautiful! I need to get my hands to match the dial better and find a pearl.
-
This is my best face so far! - hands could use some aging - any recommendations? Also need a matching pearl.
-
Yeah - the mismatch of the lume on hands nad 12 indicator versus the rest bugs me.

Thank you!

What would something like this go for? -
By the way, as you can all see - I am in need of an aged pearl for the insert - if anyone has one that is readily mountable in the insert and will match the dial patina - please PM me.

Thank you for helping to clarify!

^^ Exactly ^^

It does the business without breaking the bank. One needs to make decisions when building these things...gen movement that gets entirely rebuilt using original parts...or period correct insert. I know I need to improve the hands and insert - but decisions had to be made.

No no, always happy to hear and learn - dialogue is great! thanks for sharing.

Thanks Texan! It's a Hodinkee single-buckle NATO made from horween shell cordovan leather in USA. It's nicely finished on both sides, baby soft and super comfortable. You can buy it, and a variety of them on their website, www.hodinkee.com

Thank you good sir, so is yours!

Figured I'd show you mine since they are along a very similar vein! (I think my hands need a bit of aging)
-
Thank you all I am very very happy with it, particularly knowing that in it's heart beats genuine Rolex. Here's another shot with some post-processing clean-up I didn't have time to do earlier.
