I just realised I poured water on your fire on two threads, sorry? Here's is a possible way forward. Some time ago I discovered Omega had used a calibre based on the Valjoux 7750 in some Speedmaster models. It has sub dials at 6,9 & 12. This is easy to replicate because there is a Chinese clone 7750. I started to look into it around Christmas and discovered that it had been replicated. I was going to track one down and buy one, but with work and family, it's still on my to do list. It would take a little detective work, but might be a lead for you

It is indeed a beautiful watch and many of us would love to see good reps produced. In the meantime if you can talk yourself into Planet Ocean, Rolex or Panerai they are well replicated. Also I believe there are some very good Brietling and Tag-Heurer reps, but I'm not knowledgeable on those brands.

Does it look like the JF 16610LN at Trusty Time ?
Sogeha replied to themannier's topic in General Discussion
It's a bit confusing, Trusty lists it as an A3135, but I'm sure you are correct and it is an SH3135. That is it is essentially the same movement as the Yuki 3135 It seems it is not just me that finds it hard to keep track of which 3135s are which. 2836 with cover plates, the movement Noob use that is dimensionally the same as the Rolex and the one BP uses which is pretty much the same as the Yuki. Nothing wrong with a good workhorse 2836, but for a modern Rolex the BP/Yuki would be my preferred movement -

Sogeha replied to themannier's topic in General Discussion
Agreed, but I have never really liked cover plates and dress up parts anyway and on a watch with a solid case back, it seems a bit pointless. Anyone with sufficient interest to open the back, is probably going to know it's not a pucker movement anyway. -
Would a dial from DG 2813 fit on an eta 2836?
Sogeha replied to horologist's topic in General Discussion
Soldering is problematic as you say, but many watchmakers suppliers offer dial feet which are suitable for expoxying to the dial. It is tricky to do for a ham fisted amateur like me, but it is a way out of your problem. -
https://rwg.cc/forum/230-watches-clothing-parts-accessories/ Also www.puretime03.com Take a look at what is on offer and also have a read on the Omega subsection to avoid further disappointment. There isn't a super rep of any Speedmaster model, but you should at least get one that works?

Sogeha replied to horologist's topic in General Discussion
No, you would have to remove the dial feet and be no better off than you are now. DG2813 is a Chinese copy of a Miyota movement. Have you thought about having a watchsmith expoxy new feet on your existing dial? -
I'm going to be in Hong Kong and mainland China in a few months, so I would be very interested in seeing what is available. Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) is not a problem as my business partner and travelling companion is Malay Chinese. Would you please PM me details?

Welcome to our community and thanks for the lovely story. I also liked the Rolex adverts in every issue of National Geographic, in fact I still have a subscription and now the is a bookcase full of yellow spines in my library. It's a funny thing about loving vintage Rolex and getting into this "dark side" of the hobby, if you want a nice collection of vintage Rolex and have a bit to play with, a gen 16800 isn't too costly and is probably better than money in the bank. A COMEX, milsub or Paul Newman, well even if you have deep pockets, would you feel comfortable wearing in the street? A high quality rep at $2-5000 looks mighty tempting.

1970 Rolex Daytona 6263... PN or Standard dial?
Sogeha replied to rolojack's topic in The Rolex Area
Did you read the opening post? It is not found, it is made. The base watch is a Cartel 6263 available from any of the TDs. However this has had a new dial and much work done to it -

Nothing for two years, then two posts on the same day?? Glad to see you back, I hope you stick around

There are long threads about the meanings of these names and how they came about, which can be quite interesting. Top line answer is it is just how we distinguish one "factory" from another. In most cases it is not what the factories call themselves.

Swiss ETA is good, Chinese watch with Swiss ETA for premium price over Chinese ETA clone, generally bad. Because of supply issues, these are usually old, dirty movements, repaired with any mix of secondhand and Chinese parts and not worth the price. Unless there is no option for the watch you are interested in, always buy the Chinese version. If you wish, fitting a Swiss movement at a later date is a straight swap and if you source your own movement at least you know it is new or a used unit in good condition.

I think with the punitive taxes in the colonies and a general lack of interest from London, they may have had just reason to rebel. Anyway that happened long ago when New York was a pirate trading post. Happy 4th of July to all who are celebrating

Rolex Milgauss 6541... How often have you seen this around?
Sogeha replied to rolojack's topic in The Rolex Area
Every day is a school day. Previously I had only seen them with a black insert, red triangle. Having done a quick search I see Robert Maron had one like this for sale. The case work is something else, how many hours did it take? -

Sogeha replied to Champagnesky's topic in The Rolex Area
No, I wanted to, but I missed the boat. Tony has gone legit and does not sell aftermarket parts anymore. The same cases are still available from different sources though. It seems highly likely that all these Vietnamese cases are from the same place and are hand finished. Phong and Jensen is seems, just finish them rather better.
