  1. So this will probably end up being a controversial topic, but somebody's gotta ask... If you could only choose one rep, and one only, which rep is the be-all end-all of reps? The one that's either a dead match to the gen, or if not, SO close that nobody would ever be able to tell. (with or without mods) It doesn't matter if the gen is unobtainable either, in your opinion, which rep out of every single rep you've seen/owned could stand up to scrutiny from even the most skilled set of eyes?
  2. Hi, I'm new to this so any help would be very much appreciated. I'm looking to get a Rolex Explorer 1, 39mm rep but don't really know where to start. I've seen a few on puretime which look OK. Has anyone got any advice, or have bought one of these? Many thanks
  3. As there does not seem to be a thread dedicated to the DSSD Prohunter variations, hopefully the following details will be useful. In case anyone is unaware of the Prohunter line, this was the brainchild of a vintage Rolex dealer, well known in gen Rolex forums. The older members will know who I’m referring to. Let us refer to him as ‘KC’ since including his name in this thread may provide this as a search result in any search engine for anyone typing his name. And I certainly don’t want to attract unnecessary attention to a rep forum. I’m sure most of us know that the gen fora know rep forums exist, however I don’t see the need to frantically wave a red flag in their direction. So….one fine day, KC decided that DLCing certain Rolex models (SD,DSSD,Daytona, etc) and charging a 30-40% markup over the MSRP would make good business sense, and people would be lining up to buy these ‘modded’ Rolexes. Well, he was right. 100 models of each line were created (I can find no references stating there were more than 100 in each case) and sold, presumably to people who had more money than they knew what to do with. Keep in mind, these models are not warrantied by Rolex – as soon as the base Rolex model was modded by applying the DLC coat, this was considered to be out of Rolex warranty terms and conditions. So these Prohunters can no longer be sent in to Rolex for service/repairs, Rolex won’t work on them. Ok, enough history, back to us. Now in this thread I will focus on the DSSD model. You are fully entitled to ask why I should focus on the DSSD only, of course. Well because: A. I like the DSSD Prohunter. A lot. No, seriously. B. Because Charlize Theron has a DSSD. And I like Charlize. A lot. Drool. Now where were we, ah yes, the DSSD Prohunter. With no offense to any DSSD owners, I love the size and look of the DSSD, but I couldn’t bring myself to buy the SS rep because I can’t stand the OGEV/RLS script. It just doesn’t work for me, maybe I’m funny that way. So when the factories released the Prohunter version – where the script is present but practically invisible thanks to the DLC coating, it was a no-brainer. The gen DSSD Prohunter was made in a run of 100 watches. There are always questions on the dials offered by the rep factories – is the single red version correct? Should I have bought the double red, was it more authentic? Are all of the rep versions fantasy models? Will my DSSD Prohunter rep look like a 1:1 to the gen? Let me try to answer some of the questions to some extent. First: Will my DSSD Prohunter rep look like a 1:1 to the gen? Short answer: At present, no (more on this anon). Long answer: Considering the gen was made in a run of 100, and has at least 6 different dial variations that I have found (and there may be more), that means each gen dial version exists in a set of about 16, assuming 100 watches/6 dial versions. So in the long run, if the factories correct all the errors, you will have a 1:1 rep to a gen of which no more than 16 exist in the entire world (considering nothing tragic has occurred to any of them). May the force be with you while walking down a dark alley. I have found the following dial versions for the gen DSSD Prohunter. The dials range from a single line in red (Sometimes DEEPSEA, sometimes PROHUNTER), double line in red, and even three lines in red. Also, on some dials, Prohunter is shown as PRO-HUNTER, whereas on others is shown as PROHUNTER. I imagine KC and team decided that having the same dial on a 100 watches wouldn’t make sound business sense if you wanted it to be unique, no. A Phantom (fancy name for stealth IMO) DSSD Prohunter also exists: I could not get a pic of the gen DSSD Prohunter caseback, but it should be similar to the gen Milgauss Prohunter caseback shown here: Another company (completely unrelated to the Prohunter company) in collaboration with the family of Jacques Piccard also released a DLC version of the DSSD, of which 86 were made. Here is a pic of the gen. Note that the JP DSSD does NOT feature the word Prohunter on the dial. And here is the gen Piccard caseback which is familiar to all those who own the rep DSSD Prohunter: Phew, with all that out of the way let’s talk about the rep versions available. The rep factories released the Prohunter in two dial versions: one with a single line (DEEPSEA) in red as follows, this is a correct gen dial version: And the other with two lines in red as follows, also a correct gen dial version: So BOTH versions of the rep have the correct dial. The caseback however is another story altogether. This is the biggest flaw on the rep watch (both versions), as it comes with the Jacques Piccard caseback, which is unrelated to the Prohunter as I mentioned earlier. However I suppose this can be remedied to some extent by replacing the Piccard mid caseback with the grey mid caseback from the SS DSSD. I have not seen a PVD DSSD with the word Deepsea in red and no Prohunter on the dial – that would be the correct dial for the Piccard. I hope this was of some help. Cheers, T
  4. So I've been buying and selling a lot of gen watches lately but all from micro manufacturers (i.e. Helson, Armida, etc...). I've had my eye on a few smaller brands but the one that really stands out is from a company called Raven. Many of you know the name but the same guys that own this brand also own Benarus. I've heard a lot of great things about them so I found one on another gen forum and took the plunge. Price point new is ~$750. I picked this one up for under $640 shipped to my door and it was 30 days old. The previous owner had a 6.5" wrist and it was too big. It does wear big...alot like my gen Breitling SuperOcean Steelfish but a little more top heavy. The watch has both Rolex and Tudor vibes. Yep, it even has lugholes. Just a fun piece. Honestly I didn't know what to expect but DAMN the watch is amazing. I went with the Raven Deep Tech with date and the blue lume. If you love the Rolex Deep Sea, and want a lower price gen alternative...this is a great option folks. Remember this is a gen and not a rep. You can really feel the quality and actually dive with it! Not that I'll be going to 8200ft anytime soon Rolex Deep Sea Raven Deep Tech 42 http://www.ravenwatches.com/deeptech.php I'll post some pics later but for now here are a few borrowed from others:
  5. Hi Everyone, I am about to make a purchase but wanted to get some opinions before I pull the trigger. I have always wanted a Rolex Datejust II "Iced Out Bezel" with VVS quality CZ's and finally found one that I like from a non-trusted dealer. I wanted to ask what your opinions on what do you think about the quality of this watch (low quality, normal, or high quality)? I think that I can pull it off because my background is in the entertainment industry.
  6. HI Everyone, I wanted to ask your opinions about this Datejust II "Iced Out Bezel" with VVS quality CZ's on the bezel that I'm about to make a purchase on. I've always wanted a Datejust II with CZ's or lab made diamonds on the bezel and found a source that is not a trusted dealer. I think that my lifestyle and background in the entertainment industry will help me pull this one off.
  7. Hey everyone! Watcheden.net is having a clearance on a Rolex Milgauss. I'm interested in getting one but I'm just curious about the errors the watch have compared to the original. Here's the link at the bottom and I hope all these Rolex experts may share their opinion. http://www.watcheden.net/rolex-milgauss-automatic-with-tinted-green-sapphire-same-structure-as-eta-version-new-version-39mm-3-i-24756-p-1.html
  8. Yesterday, while at work I was approached by a coworker, telling me of this Rolex that he has laying around in a drawer, collecting dust! He goes on to explain that it's an "Oyster, or something," and "I think it's the real deal." He tells me that the watch is quite small, he thinks it is a womans watch and he can't wear it, if I'm interested I might aswell have it, he'll bring it in tomorrow... Well, tomorrow is today and today he walks in and hands me a watch on a stretched out bracelet that is only attached at one side of the case, the bracelet has come off the 6 o-clock end-link. I take the small stainless steel time piece in my hands and give it a quick once over and say "This is worthless, likely fake, let me throw it away for you" Okay, I'm kidding. After looking at it quickly, the watch appears to be a cir.1960's Tudor, Prince Date, automatic. it also has a dial that I have never seen before, a white dial with both 12h and 24h printed indicators, the inner 24h markers are red. I'm not really a Rolex/Tudor guy and know very little about vintage peices from this manufacturer... that's where I hope some of the experts on this forum will really come in handy... This is the watch, on brown leather, his is on a bracelet, I'll get the bracelet model later, when I have access to the watch. I could see that the movement appeard to be running, just from transport so no issue there. I unscrewed the crown and slowly proceded to wind the watch, being careful to feel for resistance or any obvious problems. The winding was vey smooth so I continued to wind the watch to give the movement a good charge; I am hoping to assess accuracy and approximate power reserve over the next little while. I pulled the crown out one position, this is the time change as I dont believe this watch has a quick set date, I carefully started to move the hands through 24+ hours, the date change was good, ~12:00 and most importantly, it worked. I set the time and put the watch aside until I have time to work with it some more (photograph it). I plan to update this post with pictures of the watch as soon as I get a chance to photograph it, I am busy for the next few days but should get a chace to work with it soon. Why then am I telling you guys this? 1. I thought it was a cool story, sometimes neat things happen and it doesn't always involve someone saying "Hey buddy, nice watch" which by the way, never happens. 2. I am hoping that some of the Rolex/Tudor Afficionados on this forum will be able to enlighten me about this piece, I'm sure there is more to know than google can share, as it is predominantly ebay sales listings for other Tudor Prince Date pieces. Oh, I almost forgot to mention 3. He would like me to sell this watch for him... it may end up available in the sales section here, this thread should make for a nice preview and introduction into this watch that might be just what someone is looking for. I hope to update you all soon with lots of detailed pictures of this watch, until then, talk amongst yourselves and please, if anyone has anything to share on this peice, I am all ears.
  9. Hi guys, The 1016 is a special model for me. Have owned a couple of cheap reps earlier, but decided to put in some funds. Would like to share with you some pictures: And why have a pretty movement if you're not gonna show it off? ...and for all you puritans - caseback is still left, no worries Well, as most of you saw from the case profile and lugs, this is a 1601 based franken. Full parts list: *1966 Gilt 1016 Explorer dial (this type was used 64-66, before that chapter ring and after non-gilt) *Tritium hands (allegedly from a 1964 gilt 5513 sub) *Tropic 22 superdome crystal *JMB custom made bezel (thanks mate!) *Rolex 1601 case, non-drilled lugs *Rolex 1570 non-hacking movement (recently serviced, date parts removed) - correct for a 1965+ build (before that 1560) *Display caseback from Custom Watch Concepts (and a 1966 1016 caseback just for show - doesn't fit the case!) *Yuki 7206 bracelet, fixed endlinks squeezed in Must take this opportunity to thank others who have gone this path (alligoat and most of all ubi!) for the inspiration - for me the gilt 1016 dial together with the slender 160x case is the perfect combination, heck like it even better than the gen 1016 case! Thanks also goes out to lhooq for helping me along the way and Domi for assembling this. Might consider drilling out the lugs (if I can find anyone with the guts to do it lol!) and upgrading the bracelet and endlinks - but honestly this feels good as it is and I wear it all the time right now. Thank you for looking, and please do comment with suggestions, questions or thoughts - as always much appreciated! Yes, even things like "are you sure that superdome is gen?" is good to hear in the long run...
  10. Hi everyone, as per the title I'm interested in buying a decent datjust rep. By decent I mean proper sized hands and 2.5X cyclops. I am okay with either 36mm and 41mm but they have to be SS models not gold. Just checked out watcheden and they're having this for 149$. I can't post the link as I'm new but the title says "Rolex Datejust II Automatic Stick Marking with Blue Dial 41mm Same Structure As Swiss ETA Version-High Quality-1" on their website. Are there anywhere else to shop for this? and how long is the delivery for watcheden to Malaysia? Thanks!
  11. I am new to the rep world but have been monitoring this forum and few others. I am a current owner of a couple Andrew products. I am writing in this forum due to the recent order of TT Black dial Daytona from him. I placed an order for a higher end "wrapped" case and bracelet (ROLDYT0007A). But when I received the QC pics it was discovered the bracelet wasn't fully "wrapped" silver still showed on the side of the center link next to the case. I wanted to give Andrew a round of applause for his willingness to get this fixed offered up additional QC pics and be more than understanding of my concern. He without hesitation offered up a full refund since the QC pics did not match what was on his site. THANK ANDREW FOR THE GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! He advised that gold full "wrapped" bracelet are no longer available. So I was curious if there is any other trusted dealers that offer up the fully "wrapped" bracelet including the center link? I have searched and came up with nothing in regards to wrapped gold.
  12. Just completed my latest 1520 cal-powered franken Submariner Prototype build: loving it What do you guys think? Gen here: http://rolexpassionreport.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/rpr_IMG_2263.jpg
  13. Hi guys, I took some pictures of my first Rolex. It's a TC 16610 LV with a genuine pearl. Enjoy!
  14. Hi guys! A little less than a month after getting my license, today I'm meeting with my very first potential clients! (I'm a realtor) So here's the suit & wristwear for the day... oh and my beard. I really should shave but I don't want to accidentally cut myself before I meet these people (ALSO I THINK THIS MAY VERY WELL BE THE FIRST SELFIE ON RWG SO I'M PRETTY STOKED ABOUT THAT)
  15. Right. So what I've established in less than 24hrs on this marvellous website is that some of the best and recommended Rep. Watch Sites & Sellers who comment and effectively advertise here are playing games. Make no mistake, I would very much like a top quality Rep. Rolex and am prepared to pay for it too in the proper sense, but what I am not prepared to do is to be hoodwinked. All I am trying to establish here from anybody including the obvious sellers and any so-called self-proclaiming 'independent' buyers and recommenders, is that the watches I'm interested in are GENUINE REPS OF THE QUALITY IN THE VIDEOS I LINK TO AGAIN HERE : p-cls.com/rlm00008-milguass-green-sapphire-swiss-283631-p-12835.html ttw888.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_237&products_id=10003&zenid=2cb18314cc62e39839ef647d052b1aa6 Please stop taking 'us Westerners' ALL for complete fools, will you, and just fess up - are the watches in these videos REAL REPS or are they in fact the genuine Rolex 'things'?! Quite simple. So, who's up for a bit of honesty and making a clean and good sale - and before anybody replies, please read my posting and think carefully beforehand because the one thing that will prevent me buying is lack of honesty, yes - even in the Rep. business it requires honesty, okay. Likewise, before any smart a45es respond 'well, get a gen, then' - that's not the point and not what is required for the purpose I intend, which is my business, not yours. Yes, I appreciate this is not a sales site but raising that also avoids the issues that I raise. No offence intended to anybody who is genuinely being, well ...perfectly upfront and straightforward... After all, that's all I'm doing too - being honest and straightforward and hoping to find a like-minded straightforward Rep. Dealer. I hope that is now clear. Kind Rgds
  16. Hi, I am looking at getting a top quality Rep. Milgauss or DeepSea and have come across two great looking companies. However, their videos of the particular Milgauss I'd like look very similar to me, one is Swiss ETA. Can somebody advise me please if this is correct and 'normal', the sharing of videos in such circumstances, if indeed this is what has happened here? Or perhaps I'm wrong, it has been known on occasions. I understand that I cannot post links at the moment, so as best as I can do before Crew can assist possibly, are as follows : p-cls.com/rlm00008-milguass-green-sapphire-swiss-283631-p-12835.html ttw888.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_237&products_id=10003&zenid=2cb18314cc62e39839ef647d052b1aa6 I do not want to cause any issues anywhere but would just like clarification. Kind Rgds
  17. Hello friends I will be (in the next few days) ordering my 3rd rep, my choice is a Rolex Explorer ii 42mm in white my dealer is Josh (he is the only dealer I have ever used) The problem I have is what movement should I go for?? Just for the first timers out there thinking of placing your first order, I will update this thread with the whole process of my Oder though to receiving my watch with pics!
  18. Hi, I'm looking to hobby and purchase my first rep, after researching I feel this forum could offer sound advise. I know there are many many sites out there, I have also come across a few individuals that specialise in not only a particular brand but a particular model, this is very appealing as if they have a passion for a particular model then they would create the best reps. As I mentioned I am looking to obtain my first rep, I am not fussed on make or model but more on quality, I would appreciate your expertise on this and any advise you could provide for what you thing is the best rep out there, you are welcomed to post pictures. Many thanks.
  19. Hi, I have been looking to buy a rep rolex, I was very close to making a purchase but first done a search on the website where I was looking to make the purchase, found a review that lead me to this forum, glad I did. I have found this topic to be really saturated online and have discovered other review sites that surprisingly promote the same site for every post so i guess they are all interlinked. Obviously I do not have the money to buy a genuine rolex but don't mind paying £300 £500 for a rep that has made serious effort to rep. I am located in the UK. A few hundred pounds is a few hundred pounds and I don't want to waste on complete garbage so posting this for some experienced advise. I like the Daytona watch silver with white face, but I'm open yo any model.
  20. Hi guys, following the description on one of Trusty's listings: http://www.ttw888.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_7&products_id=10893&zenid=158642ddbadfb457ca51a119b242ff00 "External Dimension is 1 : 1 against the Genuine... All External Parts are interchangeable with Genuine...." The same description can be seen on the GMT master rep listing. Is it legit ? e.g. could I fit a gen crown and tube without re-tapping and without doing any adjustments ? how about a bezel assembly ? or a gen dial , crystal etc.. (The plan is to buy the rep with an asian ETA, and fit gen tube+crown, gen bezel assembly+insert, gen dial and maybe also gen crystal later on ) Any help will be appreciated. Many thanks! Db
  21. Like the title says … Yeah, it's been a while. I'm out of touch.
  22. Hi guys, all new in here, need a little input and advice. Im looking to get the Roles sub 116613 or the 16613.. I like the wider case lugs, Crown and dial on the new 116613.. But I don't know about the new blue color?? What do you guy think and why? My budget for this watch is $250-300 with shipping, hope you can help my getting the right one.. Which one is the best rep, 116613 or 16613? Where do I buy it and what version/movement do I go for? I found Trusty time, from what I see he is a good guy, but should I look elsewhere? Can't post links yet, but have been looking at what he call the Ultimate Supreme Version Looking forward to some input, thanks everyone :-)
  23. The watch was a custom order Rolex in the 1970's; it's the only white gold daytona Watch pictured is from here: http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/talking-watches-with-john-goldberger
  24. Just received my Black Submariner 16610 rep from Andrew at Trusty Time. Was a little worried about customs as was shipped EMS over the last week or so but no such problems! Very very impressed. It's my first rep so starting at the shallow end. It's just your basic Asian movement $160 rep so not looking for perfection but thoroughly impressed. If I had a couple of small criticisms it would be that the bracelet feels a little sharp at the edges and more 'jiggly' than i'd expect a gen to be. Again, for $160 it still feels quality and looks 100% the real deal. The other point is that there is a teeny tiny mark on the inside of the bezel pearl, so small I couldn't get the camera to show it. You can hardly even see it with the naked eye. Only just slightly if looking at it from a certain angle, and then you'd still have to know it was there. One rep in I'm already wondering what my next one will be, oops! Will get some wrist shots once I've removed a couple of links this evening. Apologies for the photos - only got my iPhone with me at the moment and certainly no David Bailey!
  25. I've searched far and wide and can't seem to find this! Does anyone know where to buy a GMT Master II, old aluminum pepsi bezel, with correct handstack??? Key is the correct handstack. Where the heck is this watch?
