  1. So, I am just a few weeks away from wrapping up probably my most "involved" franken thusfar, a very special Tudor Monte Carlo (a 7031/0 actually) from Jensen aka VintageWatchmaker aka son of Phong. Anyways, the stock dial on the phong/Jensen 7031 isn't great imvho and accordingly, I had been on the hunt for a different dial to use for some time. With DW's (great) dials out of the picture, remaining options are kind of limited. Yuki's dial leaves much to be desired, NDT's dial is terrible and nothing on offer from either MQ or Tonny. I was at a loss. Then a couple weeks ago I made a last-ditch search on eBay and actually stumbled upon (and won; $88, score!) a pretty nice dial from a random seller. The details are pretty good from what I can tell (dial is still en route to me) but it doesn't look like any other Home Plate dial I've ever seen. My first thought was maybe it could actually be a random old DW dial, but comparing to pics of DW 7032s on the boards made me think otherwise. Curious to see what others think of it and if anyone has any idea of its provenance: Hard to see but the subdials are nice and recessed and have the correct guilloche texture, the lume plots look good and have an awesome texture, the hash marks on the minute track are nice and thin, shield looks good, the grey background looks quite nice, etc. Granted, those outer orange numbers are a bit too thick and "Oysterdate" looks a tad odd among a few other deficiencies; but compare then to the stock Phong/Jensen dial (below) that was supposed to come on the build initially. Above dial is better to my eye, both definitely have their individual pluses and minuses but overall I prefer the random eBay dial. Thoughts? Also, for what it's worth: The eBay seller seems to be listing a stream of random aftermarket Tudor dials; only listing one or two at a time. eBay profile says he's located in California by the tracking number for my dial originated in Vietnam. The dials all look pretty good all things considered and as far as I can tell they're not the same as the usual suspects you see for many of these dials (7149, 7159, pres. seal snowflake, etc.), perhaps a stream of new good "Vietnam" dials are slowly trickling onto market? eBay seller id: bivintagestore2014
  2. Hi there, I have finally finished my ranger project and I am getting a little fogging under the crystal when washing dishes. I am wondering if there is moisture still in there from when I cleaned the threads for a new case tube with alcohol/ water. Anyway, the crystal is a Clark 25-123 and wasn't a very tight fit in the first place. I sealed it with crystal cement. The case is a Yuki 74000. Is there a better fitting crystal I should be using? Is there a chart with the measurements of the different crystals?
  3. Hi everyone, First time post after a while lurking, can't rate the place highly enough. Been looking for a rep Tudor Black Bay Black but wanted to ask those of you who have bought any reps a few questions I've seen many versions on the black bay going all the way to v4. But these only seem to apply to those carrying the red bezel (beautiful but not to my taste). Has anybody here bought a black bay black they would recommend? And how does it compare to the various "v2/3/4" red versions? Any one willing to share pictures or emails of dealers you purchased them from would be really appreciated! Thanks guys
  4. Hi fellow watch druggies. I would like to share with you my project - The Tudor 7032 Monte Carlo. Ive been gathering the parts for some time but now I feel that I would like to focus om making this watch to a reality. Im still missing a lot of parts but scavenging the interwebs for parts is part of this hobby right? These are the parts Ive got: 1. DW Tudor 7032 Sterile Case 2. DW Tudor 7032 Dial 3. Gen NOS Rolex T-128 crystal 4. Classic Watch Parts (Michael Young) centre seconds/chrono hand. This was bought in a group buy on RWG a couple of years ago and has also been repainted by the janeto for a closer match to gen. One of a kind (5 total I believe?). 5. Yuki hour and minute hands. 6. 1 Subdial Hand, also purchased through a group buy. Unfortunately Ive managed to get just one hand, will try to get a second one, otherwise I will have to use Yukis. 7. 702 Crown. Im not sure but I think its Athayas crown. Sourcing a gen 700 would be nice. 8. Gen tudor Clasp. The parts that Im missing: 7734 Movement Datewheel. It feels that getting the correct datewheel is impossible. Ive been in contact with a member who said that he could etch a datewheel but I have not heard anything more about this. Second correct subdial hand. Bracelet. Not sure what bracelet is the correct one. Endlinks The Mods that I would like to do are: Send the Dial and hands to Big dazza for relume and aging. Engrave the case between the lugs. Make the caseback engraving deeper. Try to engrave the movenent bridge. Not sure if anyone has tried it. Send the watch for case aging and assembly to a modder due to my bad temper when assembling small parts together. Here are some images of the parts:
  5. About a year ago, I bought something from someone on ebay which started me on a journey… I think I bought a strap or something equally mundane but the seller asked if I would be interested in any other watch related parts as he was selling some stuff from his late father who was a watch enthusiast, collector and amateur, but skilled watch smith. One of the many things he offered me was “an old broken Tudor watch”. When I got the bad pictures the case wear looked good, the dial was a very poor copy which was worrying, the crown was not in the movement and the case was “not openable” so it was not possible to know what the movement was or if it worked, if the tube was good or the crown itself. He was selling it “as is” but it came with a bracelet that appeared to be a gen early pre 7206 rivet which could be correct to the case. It was fairly cheap, not super cheap but I thought in the worst case the bracelet alone should almost make me my money back. This is what I got… A very early PCG Tudor GIlt Sub... everything seems to be gen, the crown, tube, super domed plexi, case, caseback, insert (prob a later one), the bezel had a bad repair when I took it off but it appears to be gen (but I am not 100% sure there) and not only was the movement a gen 390 but it runs perfectly and even the hands appear to be gen gilt period, all be it lumed very very badly. The dial however was trash… so I started a hunt for an early gen gilt Tudor dial. After months of looking and WTBs I gave up on the gilt dial, I considered buying a rep… only Phong and MQ make decent ones, with MQ being the only real really close “true gilt” one but even that has inaccuracies and was something like 800USD. A few weeks ago I managed to find another early Tudor dial with great patina. Not correct to this watch but I figure a gen dial is far better in this case than a rep one. (debate begins on that point). Here are some pics which were a joy to take… the dirt, the wear, the little repairs, the honesty in the case is really nice to see. If anyone has any clues on those case back engravings (military?) please let me know. I hope you enjoy them... Case Case back Bezel Dial So the build begins…
  6. I've just bought a genuine Tudor Tiger. It's been through the wars a bit, it has a aftermarket bracelet and the pawnshop owner was a bit too vigorous with his polishing. But I paid under the odds so I'm happy. I'd like to get it back to the original (or as close as possible). Some of these models (79280) came with the sharkskin strap, polished lugs and an endlink which was matt/polished/matt. Some came with matt lugs, a jubilee style bracelet and a matt/polished/matt/polished/matt endlink. My questions are Do I need the endlinks to attach a strap? Or will a curved end strap fit? I've read somewhere that you need curved spring bars for a strap on this watch. Is that correct? Where would I find the end links? Where would I find a strap? Where would I find a bracelet/deployment that's not gonna break the bank (replica?) Help me out guys. R
  7. This is my collection at this very moment. Some of these are from the a previous raffle that I was lucky enough to win. Thanks Mike on a bike btw. I also have couple cheapies I'm about to sell that didn't make it into the pics, but they will be gone soon. 8. As the title states, I have searched the interwebs for a few months now, maybe not correctly, for a Tudor Monte Carlo 9420 Plexi model number. I have managed to find a non cyclops plexi that fits, and I will rock the creation in the Fall like this until I find the correct unit. Yuki won't disclose information, or sell individual parts. Cannot find any source for parts other than the bezel, dial and hands. I also need the actual dimensions of the case back. Long story short, I was able to get a case that actually fits the 7750 quite well and will be working on some hybrid of the 9420 and earlier Monte Carlos. Thanks
  9. This is a Snowflake budget build that I completed about two weeks ago. It was meant to be a project that could be completed for under $250. Sooo, that meant I was unable to do some of the more detailed things like the engraved caseback, gen spec 580 end links, send out to get case reshaped etc. But I think it looks great for the investment and it accomplishes exactly what I was looking for. The parts are: Case: cartel 5512 Hands: raffles Dial: raffles I haven't aged this one apart from a little bit of hour marker aging which can't really be seen in the pics. I plan on doing the insert sometime soon. But for now, I;m enjoying the new old stock look. Next build will be a Tudor 7922 big crown! I'm excited about that one as well!
  10. Beautiful shot of the Tudor Black Bay and the Rolex Submariner No-date. Shot in Lausanne, Switzerland.
  11. I would like express my appreciation to Sead which help me to purchase this Tudor BB Red from ZF . Initially I have ordered IWC Laureus Sport For Good foundation but the marker on 12 is not aligned hence have decided to change to BB. It took 1 week to arrive and the watch is very sharp and very nice IMHO except that the dial seems very dark compare to all picture that posted in forum. Sead have been very patience to let me run through all QC pictures , raised up all concerns and looking from a better option from the IWC Laureus to Tudor BB. To me it is very important during the purchase process. Highly recommended to deal with Sead!! After resize the bracelet and oil bath, it is good to go and really to be wear during New year eve party!! Happy New year everyone !!
  12. Was bored so I took some shots in the snow from a couple of watches out of my collection. I hope you enjoy them Oh and a wristshot
  13. So I'm considering purchasing a Tudor "Snowflake" from Phong. There are plenty of threads on this site regarding the accuracy of other watches, but I haven't really seen any regarding the accuracy of the Tudor 9411 that Phong produces?
  14. Okay, next question about a gen Tudor that I bought 15 years ago. I remember being really impressed at the time of purchase with the lume, but as the years have gone by, the lume has faded to nothing. And a couple of years ago I managed to chip the sapphire (just under the cyclops, tiny but it's there) and one of the links in the bracelet has managed to buckle, not badly but it spolis the look. I'll post pictures when I get home. My questions are: 1. Is it worth having the dial relumed? Or is it just better being 'authentic' and lumeless 2. How much should I be paying to have the sapphire replaced? 3. A buckled link? How on earth am I gonna fix that? Can I actually buy a single link anywhere? Or am I in for a whole new bracelet?
  15. Good evening, Just searching for one TBB and torobravos is featuring a newer V3 version... puretime has V2, both 318usd -the same happens with the Noob Subs (V3 in puretime vs V4 in TB) - I read in other post here than they are the same, so I wonder if you could tell me if there is a difference or is just a marketing move between dealers. I know both are TD, just want to make sure! One other question, a watchsmith could make a watch waterproof? At least waterproof enough to do some swimming? Regards, Ricardo
  16. Hi guys, I've got this watch laying around for a while now and I never uploaded pictures of the watch. I don't know why because it's a real beauty! So better a little late than never, here are some pictures of my Tudor Black Bay. Thanks for looking, every comment is appreciated
  17. Hey gang, just found this interesting link on the Bay while looking for some parts for my Snowflake Franken... There is a seller in Singapore that is apparently making custom solid stainless end links to be used on Tudors like the Black Bay and Heritage chrono, so that there is not a gap between the case and strap with bands and NATOs. Kind of expensive, but I thought it a neat idea for some of us that are really a bit anal-retentive with things like this. >> http://www.ebay.com/itm/CUSTOM-STRAP-END-LINKS-FOR-ROLEX-TUDOR-BLACK-BAY-BIG-BLOCK-THC-AERONAUT-GMT-/321252671142?pt=US_Watch_Bands&var=&hash=item4acc26bea6 (Note that I am not the seller, nor do I know the seller, but thought that it was an interesting idea, albeit a little expensive for some non OEM parts).
  18. The Black Bay is a beautiful watch, gen and rep. That said, what stinks is that the Pearl is a giveaway, and so is the dial. Raised type and texture missing on the rep dial. I wish they fixed these two things and I would buy buy buy. Does anyone know if these have been updated on the newest version?
  19. Yesterday, while at work I was approached by a coworker, telling me of this Rolex that he has laying around in a drawer, collecting dust! He goes on to explain that it's an "Oyster, or something," and "I think it's the real deal." He tells me that the watch is quite small, he thinks it is a womans watch and he can't wear it, if I'm interested I might aswell have it, he'll bring it in tomorrow... Well, tomorrow is today and today he walks in and hands me a watch on a stretched out bracelet that is only attached at one side of the case, the bracelet has come off the 6 o-clock end-link. I take the small stainless steel time piece in my hands and give it a quick once over and say "This is worthless, likely fake, let me throw it away for you" Okay, I'm kidding. After looking at it quickly, the watch appears to be a cir.1960's Tudor, Prince Date, automatic. it also has a dial that I have never seen before, a white dial with both 12h and 24h printed indicators, the inner 24h markers are red. I'm not really a Rolex/Tudor guy and know very little about vintage peices from this manufacturer... that's where I hope some of the experts on this forum will really come in handy... This is the watch, on brown leather, his is on a bracelet, I'll get the bracelet model later, when I have access to the watch. I could see that the movement appeard to be running, just from transport so no issue there. I unscrewed the crown and slowly proceded to wind the watch, being careful to feel for resistance or any obvious problems. The winding was vey smooth so I continued to wind the watch to give the movement a good charge; I am hoping to assess accuracy and approximate power reserve over the next little while. I pulled the crown out one position, this is the time change as I dont believe this watch has a quick set date, I carefully started to move the hands through 24+ hours, the date change was good, ~12:00 and most importantly, it worked. I set the time and put the watch aside until I have time to work with it some more (photograph it). I plan to update this post with pictures of the watch as soon as I get a chance to photograph it, I am busy for the next few days but should get a chace to work with it soon. Why then am I telling you guys this? 1. I thought it was a cool story, sometimes neat things happen and it doesn't always involve someone saying "Hey buddy, nice watch" which by the way, never happens. 2. I am hoping that some of the Rolex/Tudor Afficionados on this forum will be able to enlighten me about this piece, I'm sure there is more to know than google can share, as it is predominantly ebay sales listings for other Tudor Prince Date pieces. Oh, I almost forgot to mention 3. He would like me to sell this watch for him... it may end up available in the sales section here, this thread should make for a nice preview and introduction into this watch that might be just what someone is looking for. I hope to update you all soon with lots of detailed pictures of this watch, until then, talk amongst yourselves and please, if anyone has anything to share on this peice, I am all ears.
  20. Hi all, So I'm very interested in getting my hands on a "vintage" Tudor 5514. I see that Trusty has one, with Asian 2836 movement. Has anyone handled one of these? How accurate are they? Are they well made? Is Trusty the best source to pick one of these up, or is there a better supplier? In the long-run I'd like to have one custom-made (or do it myself), but I'd like to get my hands on one to see if I like it, before I invest significantly more cash in it. Either way, just looking for a nice vintage Tudor Submariner. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks.
  21. Hi RWG, Here's my first project-a homage of the Tudor Submariner 9411 Snowflake. A little background; like most WIS, I love vintage submariners and I wanted a homage to satisfy my craving for one. When I decided I wanted to build my own homage, I was torn between a 1680 and a 9411 homage. In the end I decided to go with the Snowflake because most folk in my area don't know the Tudor brand or their awesome watches! The movement is a Sandoz ETA2824-2 which does not hack, but I will be looking into the possibility of getting it to hack. I read online that the usual case is a missing stop lever so I might be able to get a replacement lever online. The case was once a Rolex 16610 replica (I think) but does not feature gen-like construction. It also lacks lug holes-my favourite design trait in a vintage sub! The dial is from Tiger Concept and the hands from another vendor online. All the parts- Movement (the original datewheel had to be replaced with another one so the font is different) Dial and hands. The dial is the usual 29mm size so the hour indices appear smaller than on the original- Here it is before the bracelet arrived. It's on a padded black leather strap with burgundy stitching- The blue bezel was nice, but I wanted a black one so it was replaced. Unfortunately I decided to practice bleaching on it so now it's a faded, teal coloured bezel Here it is after the bracelet and bezel insert was installed. The bezel insert was the usual gloss black and since I wasn't happy with my bleaching attempts, I decided to give it a coat of acrylic matte black. It wore off now so I'm going to have to tackle that bleaching job eventually! I also removed the clicking mechanism and made the bezel bi-directional so it matches the vintage theme. The pearl does not match, but I had a hard time removing it and I thought I'd leave it on till it falls off on its own The bracelet is a sterile 93150 type but with a 78360 type sterile clasp. No drilled lugs... Matte black bezel insert- Lume shot- I'm very happy with how it turned out but I'd like to try out new mods on this to make it better. For starters, I'd like to add texture to the dial and relume it with a puffy lume, then work on thinning down the crown guards and softening the case. So there you have it, my first project. I'm always on the lookout for a beautiful 1680 or 5513 case with drilled through lugs so I can make a true-to-original homage of the 9411. My next project is going to be a vintage Datejust build for my father. The base watch is on its way to me so I'll open a thread for that when I receive it. Thanks for viewing my thread! Jay.
  22. Various close ups of the dial and hands Crown Bracelet clasp Case back and SELs My thoughts on it so far; overall it is a very, very nice rep. the dial is lovely, as are the hands. The talk about being able to see the difference in the gold colouring of the hands and the dial markers - I can't see it in the flesh. Maybe there is a slight difference in the colour of the lume (in daylight) but it's more obvious in pictures than in real life. Bracelet is lovely and solid. SELs fit snugly. Clasp is nice and positive - if anything it's a little too tight to undo the main clasp. Like a lot of other people have commented, the bezel is slack (side to side movement) and the ratches is "almost not there", and this is the major negative. Downsides i've noticed:- * Bezel, weak click spring, side to side movement (a user has taken up the slack with a piece of coke can cut to a washer shape and has reported a huge improvement) * Clasp - a bit tight to open, but with wear it will become just perfect. Also if you look at the clasp image showing the three holes for the micro adjustment, I think these holes are a fraction too small and the spring pin doesn't seem to fit into them properly - a bit of a concern as if the spring pin comes out, the watch may drop off your wrist. * Crown - it has approximately 1 turn from thread engaging to screwed down - not much and I hope it's not another Omega PO crown thread disaster - a little bit of TLC, smoothing the threads and a touch of grease to try to enhance their longevity will be a good thing. * Bracelet screws - This is really the norm for any rep bracelets with screw in pins. They're made with low tolerances, and so as soon as the pin has been screwed into a bracelet section, they'll force the threads on both parts so they "mate" with each other. If you are careful and put the pin back into the segment it came out of, it goes back in nicely and without any problem. Mix the pins up and force them in and I bet the threads will strip very quickly. Just common sense really. Overall : I really like it. Very good job, and for the price, a damn good watch!
  23. Just received this watch a few hours ago. Had to post a few pics and first impression thoughts. Now i cant compare this to a gen, so all observations are general. I compare fit/finish against other reps like Pam111 and SOSF v2. Bracelet: Was very "rattely" upon arrival. I soaked it in Rock n Roll lube and washed it off. Now if feels very good. No hard edges. Clasp snaps in as it should. SEL fit and endlinks are just great. Case: It collects fingerprints like an iphone screen! I find myself polishing the case with my shirt all the time. The inside corners on the lugs are razor sharp. Maybe its possible to sand thoose down. Otherwise the case is good, sits great on the wrist. Crystal: AR is good. Better than my Noob 111, but not as good as the SOSF v2. Its raised but i don't think its as doomed as the gen. I think.. Color hands/indexmarkers: We know they are not the same color. But you wont notice this on the wrist. This is a non issue. Dial: Just great. Pure class and good execution. Bezel and pearl: Biggest letdown of the watch. It turns pretty easy, but its a 60 click bezel. Maybe it should be like that, but im so used to 120 click bezels so it feel strange. It also feels "sheap" when you turn it, it has a bit of play and the pearl does not center 12 marker with a click. Its between clicks if you know what i mean. pearl is centered and looks good. I know an updated pearl will be released, i don't see any reason to change this pearl. A non issue for me. Conclusion: I have waited for this watch for over a year. Been following the RG thread daily. I had high expectations. But when my boss bought the gen i told myself that this would be a C&R. But im not so sure anymore. Its a stunning watch with a lot of character. The grey dial and gold hand is just purse sex. Its a small watch, but wears pretty big. This is something ppl notice. The feel of the watch is very good, im starting to really love it. I highly recommend this watch. Go get it Now on to the pics.
  24. it has been like forever since I posted here, I am looking into adding a new watch to my collection. A Tudor Heritage Black Bay. Has anybody bought one of these and there is any review, who is the best one to buy from, or do all the dealers have the same one. Also My membership renewal did not go thru the last time, so I do not know how to renew. Regards Cyb
