MD2020 Who is dealing with him, I'm worried now!
kbh replied to sgtguk's topic in General Discussion
My thinking is these forum modders that keep popping up start working on stuff that's beyond their capabilities and they slowly build up a bunch of broken watches with damaged dials, hands or other pieces. These get put to the side and instead he'll start on another watch. Everything keeps going along, with lots of people getting their stuff back and the Ponzi scheme keeps working. Sooner or later the broken pile gets too big and people start complaining about how long he's had their watches. When the sh*t starts to hit the fan, more and more of the more patient customers start freaking and putting more pressure on the modder. In the end, the broken pile gets sent back still broken, if at all, and the modder disappears. Seen the same thing over and over on different forums. -
I personally don't care but my Frankens get really p*ssed off when they see some of these threads. I can almost hear them screaming from their watch box when someone calls a Sub with a gen crown, a franken. I probably should move them into another room.

Need a second set of eyes on my Safari back from service

I think your 6 dial marker is slightly off center to the left. I doubt there's anything that could be done about it though. I don't see anything I would worry about. -
Yep, it looks like the part of the crown with the threads is still attached to the tube. You'll also need a new stem maybe. It's hard to tell it that's broken.

Wow! Going out with a bang. -
Use something close to 200 to 280 grit sandpaper and just go over the edges. It's easy. I use the black wet or dry automotive type.

Same as a hyper franken or ultra franken. It seems like in most cases it's one that has a gen crown and tube plus one other gen part, such as gen crystal. To me a franken is a watch that has a preponderance of genuine parts and is indistinguishable from genuiine to most knowledgeable WIS. I personally wish all sales threads using the words super, ultra, or hyper franken would be deleted immediately by the mods.

I have a V4 42mm and it also had a pretty mediocre bracelet, especially the clasp. Surprisingly Narikaa's original PO'rikaa had a much better bracelet with a good clasp and good end links. One option is to try and find an old one from Reg's PO. I swapped the bracelets and sold the PO'rikaa with the V4 braclet..

MD2020 Who is dealing with him, I'm worried now!

So Joey, why didn't you or anyone else, mention these problems and Mike's previous posts early on in this thread? Maybe if some of the posters that are now belittling the people looking for answers would had have brought these personal problems out early on, this thread would have taken a whole different direction. Now, at the end you jump in and tell everyone how wrong they are. That sure doesn't seem any more right than what you are complaining about.. -
Great pictures! Do people really wear wooden shoes? They just look awful uncomfortable. Love the waving seal shot.

Exactly. My point is you do it before people start getting upset, not after. Then you might even think about a follow up post at least once a week so people know you're seriously engaged in working with them. All I'm suggesting is showing a little common courtesy to your friends and customers. Nothing particularly difficult here. -

This is none of my concern really, but if PM'ing customers is such a full time job, posting one topic on this forum would take 2 minutes and alleviate 90% of the anxiety that going silent has caused. -
I've had mine off and I don't remember it being particularly difficult to get off. Loosen with razor blade and then used a watch knife. Try to loosen it and twist the bezel a little.

Removing a Steelfish Bezel and Crown Questions
kbh replied to devilseam's topic in The Breitling Area
I think there might be two different models but this of of the original "Swiss Fish": Some other people have apparently had a much more difficult time getting them off. I found the hardest part was getting it started with the razor blade. -
Which grade of steel wool for repolish tc bracelet
kbh replied to Erict719's topic in The Rolex Area
Here's what I use. I found it recommended on one of the gen forums and it seems to be very close. I bought both fine and extra fine at Home Depot. Cheap! -
Works for me except I had to hit it twice.

New York to Pass Bill Illegalizing Purchase of Fake Goods
kbh replied to freddy333's topic in General Discussion
It's highly likely it wont even pass. Council member Margaret Chin, who introduced the bill, said at a public hearing Thursday that counterfeits deprive the city of at least $1 billion in tax revenue a year that could support community improvements. The Democratic lawmaker expects a vote sometime in the coming months. -

If a watch can't take a couple of light taps into your palm, they shouldn't be selling them.

Help needed with interesting 17000 franken build
kbh replied to bristolmarc's topic in The Rolex Area
Where in the world will you ever find the bracelet? My first Rolex was an Oysterquartz from around 1980 and I do miss it. I had a chance to buy one about 4 years ago for $1300 in a local pawn shop and still kick myself for not getting it. -
That company is a farce. It's a man and wife team with no legal standings. They cannot steal your property without a court order. The original thread about it is over on RWG.biz and has some very good information from Baldrick about what to tell them. So far everyone that has challenged them using the information posted there has gotten their watches released.
-
I've always considered that an "old wife's tale". I don't believe anyone has given a retail store owner the legal authority to confiscate personal items from private citizens. And, it's perfectly legal to own or possess a rep in the USA as long as you aren't trying to sell it.

Check this out: http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/86779-the-birth-of-a-franken-pt-i/?hl=+franken Unless I'm mistaken the 2834-2 and 2836-2 are identical raised date wheels. According to ETA documents they are the same parts number, 2557/1, CS # 91.440.22 Now, since I have the ETA 2824-2 in that exact watch shown above with a 2834-2 date wheel installed, I would have to say it works.
-
It's normal but you're better off using an ETA 2836-2 date wheel on your 2824-2 so the overlay doesn't rub on the movement. Otherwise, be careful with the installation and double check before you put it all together and make sure it turns freely.

Mike, I'm a paid member on 3 other boards and was previously a Moderator on one of them. I've paid my dues and put in my time and effort to try and make all the rep forums a better place. There's a good reason, in fact several good reasons why I never joined this board as a paid member. Attitudes like yours being one of them. There's a LOT of good information that can be garnered from this board, unfortunately most of it's not available to non paying members, so I'm getting exactly what I paid for and I'm happy with that. I try to be helpful and add meaningful contributions when I can. I wasn't going to get involved in this conversation at all since it really doesn't concern me until I read your condescending statements about membership. None of these forums would exist without all the members, not just the paid subscribers. I could write another two paragraphs of my reasons but this thread isn't the place.
