Remember that a complete 360 degree cycle for the GMT hand = 24 hours, while a 360 degree cycle for the hour hand = 12 hours. So, in a 24-hour period, the hour hand makes 2 complete cycles of the dial, while the GMT hand makes only 1. This video demonstrates the action of GMT & hour hands (the hour hand is the shorter hand)
The yellowish print is called gilt, which is essentially gold leaf. The early Sub dials were made for Rolex by 2-3 dial companies, which is why some of the details vary.
No idea of the size, but a number of parts sellers have them. Here is 1.
A.260 in my 6202, which was the precursor to the Sub (A.260 was also used in the early 6204/6205 Subs, while the 6200 used the similar but larger diameter A.296)
No.
If you want to tame the budget, swap the bracelet for a nice strap. Subs always benefit from a proper bracelet, but, on par, at least a strap would not shout 'fake', which detracts from an otherwise credible build.
1 of the best I have seen, but, as is, this falls just short of perfect. At this level, I would toss that crummy, fake-looking bracelet (get a Yuki or gen) & install the proper second hand. That would put it over the top. Still
That is the best looking watch Omega ever produced & a great pic of it. For years, I have been on the fence over this watch & if I was not dealing with a self-imposed limit on additional watches, I might be posting a similar wristie today.
After overhauling her (long-dead) quartz clock, I took the old rust-bucket (a previously accurate term, which is now little more than an endearment) out for her 1st official drive & she (& her ticker, which is (now) probably 1 of the few that run/keep time in vintage Zs ) performed flawlessly
That is why I replaced my battery. You know, even Radio Shack sells batteries for these things now & it only takes a few minutes to swap them out.
I also installed a firewire jack in my PC solely to be able to charge the iPod (I have a Kenwood system in 1 of my cars that has a charging iPod connector, which is very handy when the power is out)
Thanks. Like many of my watches, it, too, is a franken. I upgraded the original 15g drive to 20g, installed a new battery & replaced both the headphone jack & mainboard with parts from another 'pod. It has also been polished numerous times to keep it looking (nearly) new. I would be lost (or, at least, bored) without it.
Like all aftermarket dial sellers, they vary in quality/accuracy from very good (never perfect) to unbelievably horrid. Compare the dial you are interested in to a few gens on a gen forum & you will see the differences.
Other than a watchmaker with a Rolex parts account (note - Rolex does not permit watchmakers within their service network to sell parts to retail customers), try ebay, vrf or tz. Alternatively, you can often substitute generic watch bridge screws for the originals within Rolex watches.
Few gen owners ever do. You might want to read this (you will need to research the current URLs as they may have changed since the article was written).
