  2. 100% correct. Even those these movements are technically brand new, after 10+ years( not sure when ETA switched to 25 jewels, but I feel like it's been over 10 years) they are going to need a service. You need to factor that into the price. My experience has been that unless you are buying a movement that is no longer produced like the ETA 2846, by the time you buy the donor watch, pay for shipping, then pay for shipping to a repair person, then pay for a service, you would be better off buying a new movement. Another caveat, unless the donor watch is NOS, there is no guarantee that the movement will require just a service. If parts need to be replaced, the costs can multiply quickly. 3. New 2824-2'a are around 200.00 USD from reputable parts houses. These are brand new and won't need a service. Probably can find tons of watches on EBay with ETA 2824 movements cheaper than that. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  5. When posting replies, please do not quote with all the photos !! Edit out the photos before you post. Reposting duplicate photos eats up bandwidth that the forum has to pay for. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. correct about the Cosmographs, they were definitely slow sellers. Some languished on AD's shelves and in their safe for years. In fact it was a common thing down here where I live to get a Cosmograph thrown in when one purchased an 18K gold Day Date! While there may have been Singer dials produced that never were delivered to Rolex, I seriously doubt that once the Rolex dials (actually used in watches) started to increase in value, the Singer dials wouldn't go up at the same rate. I would agree that unless one had and iron clad provenance, I would be skeptical as to the authenticity of any Daytona dial being offered at "below market" price. These watches are in the rarified strata of truly serious collectible watches. When one enters this world with the intent of participating, they better be very, very knowledgeable, or have someone they trust who is.
  7. I wonder if this is another reincarnation of DW? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Very nice watches. Of all the Rolex models, the Daytonas have gone from being the"Red headed stepchild" of Rolex watches to probably some of the most expensive and sought after models. Back in the time when these were being sold as new, Rolex could hardly give them away, probably why they were produced in smaller quantities. All of the other models were for the most part automatics with date or day date. Rolex introduces this retro model, manual wind, no date and they were dogs. I bought a brand new Daytona 6265 in about 1980 for 500.00USD. I wore it for a few weeks, but couldn't come to terms with the manual wind and no date. Traded it for a 1680. Definitely a bad choice in today's market. For those smart folks who bought them and held on to them, they have appreciated exponentially to prices today that are sky high. You have some very nice Daytona reps. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. I agree 100%. I consider Matt a friend, and a true gentleman. He is without a doubt the "go to" guy for Rolex builds. Matt lives in what I would consider the Rolex capital of the world. No doubt if Texas was to have a "state watch", like a "state flower or song" Rolex would win in a landslide. Because of this there is a huge demand for Rolex watches in the area. Matt has created a very nice niche, providing high quality watches using lots of genuine parts. He has built several very nice watches for me, and I would recommend him with no hesitation. 10. Beautiful!! This one is truly as good as it gets. You have built some spectacular watches sir, and my hat is off to you. While this may signal a temporary hiatus from builds, I bet that the bug while dormant now will come back and we will see more in the future, at least those are my hopes. 11. They possibly could authenticate, but as always, Rolex will never ever tell. Their policy is and has been one of complete silence in regards to every watch that is outside the norm. Rolex could silence critics easily, but they won't. A good example of this is the Rolex 6542 GMT White dial. Supposedly ordered by PanAm for executives who were purloining the Black dial watches that PanAm purchased for their pilots. There have been huge arguments back and forth between Rolex "experts" as to the authenticity of the White dial 6542 GMT's. Rolex could end this and similar discussions with a simple one word answer, yes or no, but they won't. The White dial 6542's were supposedly, not "one offs" like this watch, but were ordered in quantity( quite small) by PanAm. Watch manufacturers like Breguet or Patek keep very accurate records of every watch that leaves the manufacturer. Very easy to verify a watches authenticity, and they are willing to help. Rolex on the other hand will not. In the case of a "one off" like this one, I'm not even sure that Rolex has the same sort of individual records that would allow them to go back and authenticate the watch. After all Rolex is not a small shop like Patek, rather they are what I would call a "semi-mass produced" manufacturer. They produce hundreds of thousands of watches every year. I would guess that over the lifetime of 6263 production, Rolex built thousands. So, even if they could, which they won't I'm not at all sure they could authenticate a watch like this with 100% accuracy. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. Beautiful job!!! I agree about the frustration factor, these are really, really difficult to put together to achieve a quality level close to gen. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. This is a new one in me. I have never heard of US Customs seizing a package outbound. I never gave it much thought, but I was always under the impression they only were concerned with inbound packages. I do know that Customs and Immigration are setting up shop in foreign airports. This gives them the opportunity to vet passengers and baggage before they get on flights to the USA. Been going on for some time at airports in Canada and Bahamas. My wife and I cleared passport control and customs in both Montreal and Nassau in the past two years. Flights back to the US are treated same as domestic flights, normal gates and no further checks. Still can't figure out why they would check outbound packages though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Got this one out of the watch box today. Haven't worn it in at least a year. This is the original stainless steel version of the Ocean7 LM7. Big hunk of steel!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  16. Dean, Generally the purpose of "freezing the 12 hour totalizer is due to the movement. The genuine Omega movement is a tricompax ( three working subdials). The movement that is commonly used in a lot of rep Chronographs is the Seagull ST19 which is a very solid movement that is built using the original tooling from the Venus 175, which Seagull bought from Venus back in the 1960's. The Seagull is a Bicompax movement , so it only has two working subdials. Thus the need to "freeze" the non functional subdial. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. eBay is the Wild Wild West!! I don't know much about these watches, but two things stand out to me. One the seller has very few sales and none that you can look back to see what they were. Another thing, he's selling a complete box set, but there is no warranty card or papers. I seriously doubt that someone legit would have everything else but the warranty card. As Ssteel said buyer beware!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. Glad to have you back!! Sorry to hear about your watch thefts. There are so many lowlifes in the world today, scares me to have anything valuable, unless it is locked up in a bank safety deposit box. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  21. Mike, from the article, it looks like they are only supplying movements to selected watchmakers. Doubt that they are geared up to sell movements to distributors and on to watch parts houses. Hopefully, at some point, they will sell to supply houses like OFREI, Cousins UK or Startime. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  22. What you did is very much frowned upon. This is a ban offense with some forums. Just because the folks at the AD didn't say anything doesn't necessarily mean they didn't know. Another thing, there is a difference between you, who knows better and knows that your watches are reps and the guy who buys a watch off eBay that was sold as a genuine. What you did is certainly not as bad as going on a genuine forum and posting photos, but why take a chance on being embarrassed by being called out. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  23. The reason folks are fooled, are many faceted, but the overriding factors are complete lack of knowledge. Most folks have almost no knowledge about watches in general and even less about specific models. The knowledge level here is probably 1000 percent higher than the average watch buyer. The second factor especially on sites like EBay is a combination of greed and what I call "auction frenzy". People are blinded by the prospect of getting something for substantially less than the going price. Couple that with getting into a competitive bidding war possibly with shill bidders that keep raising bids, and the buyer completely loses any semblance of reason and control. Buyers who have little or no knowledge of the item, and are completely blinded by auction frenzy are like sheep being led to slaughter! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
