  1. Shooting from the hip here, but you may want to try Kenberg.

    Regards,

Kenberg's suppliers used to have some really fantastic Mont Blanc fountain pen replicas (rare models like King Louis XIV) but for some reason he discontinued selling them. The last time I asked for one he asked quite a bit and I thought, might as well get a gen...

As for custom pens, I've never heard of it. There are people here who make custom watches but not pens - at least to my knowledge.

  2. I knew this was going to be posted here so I rushed to respond. This has already been debunked pretty successfully; the dog does not move when being held in a clearly uncomfortable position (as any living cognizant dog would be) and the yelping sounds do not fade correctly. Furthermore, are you sure those uniforms are marine?

In case someone is fast forwarding through this thread without paying attention:

The "dog" is not alive when thrown.

  3. I have a friend who owns one of these, and wears it daily. It's a fascinating article actually.

I heard the watch was donated to a laboratory at prestigious Princeton University because scientists were baffled as to how somebody could create an object so tacky. Needless to say, present-day ugliness measuring technology was not powerful enough to produce any tangible results. Three scientists studied the revolutionary timepiece. After the experiment; one was institutionalized, one killed himself, and the last was never heard from again.

Really fascinating watch... a breakthrough in hideousness.

  4. A few days ago I went to a local AD, and tried on some of the newest "Tudor" watches. At first, I payed no attention to this brand whatsoever. But I have to say, they have really done something clever here. You can get a solid gold, two tone sumariner-style watch for $2700 Canadian. They feel like very good quality, and the look is amazing. You should investigate them.

  5. i saw that "out there" nothing had changed... it only has become worse.

There are hundreds of replica websites... thousand... and a lot of them still ask insane prices for the lowest grades of replicas, trying to sell them as top-grade or real swiss replicas. Still being advertised with pictures of genuine watches, so not the actual replica that's for sale. The price of a simple Submariner with an ETA movement up to more than $1,000,- and it wasn't even a good one.

Some of you will hate me for this, but all I can say is, thank God. These scam websites are the only thing keeping our hobby even remotely exclusive and rare. Imagine what would happen if any of our trusted collector websites appeared as the first hit in google? It would be horrendous, because everyone interested in replicas would be given instant, reliable access. The websites with really expensive prices will turn many people away, and the cheaper ones will take their money and run. Hopefully, these bad experiences will be enough for them to realize the acquisition of such a watch is a hopeless, unsurmountable challenge and they will give up. On the streets, they will parade around in store-bought quartzes or cheap ebay homages while we get the rare opportunity to get the best of Swiss brands at super China pricing!!

The makers of those websites deserve a gold medal! The more people they rip off, the more crappy watches they ship, the more people lose interest out of frustration and the exclusivity factor is retained!!

How would you feel when all of a sudden at work half of your colleagues come in wearing Rolex, Breitling, PAM, Omega, and so on? I can say with certitude, that most of you, wouldn't be too happy about it. Because when it comes to replicas, the word is mum.

  6. To me, RWG is an escape. It is one of the few places I can turn to experience real happiness in my otherwise boring life in Ottawa; Canada, what is perhaps the saddest capital city of any country in the world. If I didn't have RWG, then the only other friends I could discuss fine Swiss horology with would be the cattle at the local farm.

  7. Whenever this happens to me (whether on the internet or in real life) I usually just give a really goofy reply. For example:

"give me information about where to buy best sub!"

    >only shmekapuss sells grade A subs... and the only way you can contact him is byAOL messenger.

...so more than likely the person spends the next few hours installing, signing up for, and subsequently realizing that there are no shmekapusses on AOL...

  8. Don't worry... everyone goes through rep hysterics at least one time in this hobby.

I remember when the hands on my Rolex misaligned; rendering the watch permanently unwearable. I had a delirium for about one day, was cranky for about one week, declared that I will never buy a replica watch ever again and the next week got myself a new watch and all was calm at sea again.

It comes... but it also passes. Don't give up, but watch what you spend. Anything more than $500 is obscene. If you're going to spend that much, you might as well get a gen. Have fun, buy different watches from QC inspection dealers, and mix it up. Don't take it too seriously or your head will explode like the people on that movie "Signal 30"...

  9. This thread makes me mighty might jealous!! Some of ya'll have really great genuine timepieces. I think I would like to own each and every one!

Sorry about the crappy 'stock photo' pictures, but this timepiece is not allowed to get any wrist time nor is it on display at home, rather, it is in a secret location for security purposes. Its value is more sentimental than monetary, but with over 100 years of history under its belt, it is a time machine responsible for telling the time of the most seemingly trivial things - like when to get to an appointment or a date - and also the most important things where people's very lives were at stake. If not for this watch, I may not even be here today... it really makes you think.

  10. Hi All

I have been a member for some time now - over 12 months (as another user) and I would like to let you all know that the reason for me being here is for my PHD paper on the "other economy" (underground / illegal economy). I will be finishing the paper off and will be submitted for final evaluation in two weeks.

    I would say...very interesting group !

    Hello,

Thanks for shedding even more light upon this underground society. Crazy. Instead of grading your paper I betcha your professor will be looking to get himself a brand new Rolex on the cheap!!!!!!!!!!

durr durr who possibly could think that is a smart idea??
