It's pretty amazing that anyone would drop 5k for a fake dial watch. He clearly states "custom dial". So is this legal? It appears. Again....this is all because Rolex parts are so limited....that it's profitable to split up gen. Watches which creates Frankenstein.

It's still up on eBay. Shouldn't it have been removed by now? He does say "custom dial and custom bezel insert". But he never states if the case is original. So is it easy to profit by splitting up watch parts like this? If it is, then isn't it ironic that because Rolex controls extra parts being limited....... The consequence is that people will split up gen. Rolexes and create Frankenstein to profit.....which is causing a situation Rolex tried to avoid. If Rolex parts were not so hard to get, people would have more gen. Watches.....but by limiting parts, they are making people split up gen. watches and create crappy creature features...... So I think rolexes policies backfired.

True, but technology exponentially makes things easier and cheaper. Escaping earth's gravity was a bad example on my part. There is no cheap way to escape gravity. I should have said computers, 3d printing, stereographic cameras, 3d modeling software.....etc...are all cheaper and easier to use.

But if I understand, even the new cartel needs a good deal of shaping to be right. The body/lugs need slimming, and is missing a beveled edge. The crown guards are still not perfect, and there are probably other issues as well. Asking the source to fix this will not work. And 1200 dollar phongs are not consistant. We must make a perfect copy. We landed men on the moon half a century ago. This is ridiculous if we can't figure this out.

If this is the newer Cartel case, did you leave the crown guards as is or did you shape anything on case including lugs? Also, did you get a new bezel assembly? The cartel insert is glued instead of pressure fitted. Mine fell off so I'm buying an after market bezel assembly.

This !!!!!!!! It makes more sense. We can more easily get more people to pool or fund the costs.

So wait, does this mean this cartel version has correct size inserts or bezel? I ask because the regular newer Cartel has wrong size insert or bezel so they have to glue instead of tension fit. I thought that was the biggest or only problem with the new cartel sub. ( Besides endlinks which is not a biggie).

Which Torx size fit in the crown tube to install or which Rolex spline? Many of us can't find any facts on what tool fits Athaya 702 tube. I asked and he said some small Torx. I can't understand how difficult this is to find.

I mentioned this before guys. Are the website photos of gen. Cases or does phongs son really make them that good?

I'm confused, if this is fake, then a gen. movements fits perfectly in them? The pictures show a gen. Movement.

Sorry but I agree glue is not acceptable. If you buy a cartel sub, they accept gen. Spec bezels so you can buy new aftermarket bezel assembly so your insert snaps in. The glued insert that came with my cartel sub fell off in only 5 weeks. It's frustrating because cartel has correct case neck diameter but then they didn't care to make the bezel correct, so you spend 120 bucks for whole new bezel assembly which is almost the cost of the watch.

While we are on the subject of date wheels on 2836, if one is building a non date watch, is there any reason to remove date wheel or you can just leave it on behind non date dial?

You first vintage build but you know terms or people I don't. Who or what is a Whoppy for the dial and who is Mary for bracelet? Well, I think Mary is the MBW source? So maybe I know that one. But who or what is Whoppy?

It says removed for me. So does eBay only cancel listings by country? If it's such a good reproduction why not just sell it as a premium reproduction?

? We can never buy replica watch parts direct it seems so I doubt you can buy replica bag or shoe materials. If it was possible then we would all be purchasing only cartel version 2 submariner cases instead of complete watches.

I think you miss something, even when adjusted for inflation, old rolexes were cheaper when new than new Rolex prices today. So Rolex got more exclusive and raised their prices over the years. So it is kind of depressing to look at old catalog prices.

Hello everyone. I have seen posts with good pictures of modding the newer Cartel 5513 cases like thinning the case but has anyone recorded what the approx. dimensions of what an early 5513 case should be in mm? I can see details like beveled edges and visual comparisons to gen. case thanks to Dbane and JackFlash posts, but it would be nice if there may be a drawing or list of the different case dimensions to help guide us. I have a newer Cartel 5513 and want to make it look as close as possible to a real case for a 7928 project using Yuki dial and good after market bezels. New crown etc. So I figured I should address the case appearance. Thanks for any info. I've seen fantastic references to Rolex parts but have not found schematics or drawings of case dimensions.

You missed the point about perhaps using technology. If someone 3d scans a gen. case, and CNC machines are available through online hub where you upload the 3d scan, and as long as we can input what threads and pitch to cut.... Your cost is low. We have or nearly have the tech.

Thanks guys.. I see Sea Gull 2836-2's on Ebay right now. But only a few. Most of the clones are not really stating what brand they are so you have a point.

I have seen people claim there are grade levels of sea gull or H. Eta clones. (Asian). But I have never found a way to order high grade Asian clones. Does sea gull offer different grades of 2836-2 for example that one can buy? I'm in the process of where I have to decide if I should get a genuine eta or an Asian. Thanks for any info.

Why was it valued at 40K? I have never heard of one selling for less than 70K.
