  1. Oh wow. I have a humble little gen collection myself and here are some of them. The irony of it is that they get mistaken for reps at times on the boards. So I guess it’s all about seeing and believing what we want to. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. Shaken not stirred. Aka. Not another Bond Thread!!! (Pic. Heavy) Something i threw together on RWI. I thought I might share it here. What is our fascination with this sociopath, misogynistic, alcoholic, emotionally dysfunctional, sickly charming, ruthless killing machine? He might be all these things but the films and the character exude style, taste and there is a little bit in all of us that wants to escape into the fantasy world in which he resides. One really has to question the effectiveness of a secret agent whose preference for alcohol beverages is known to every bartender in every exotic location throughout the world. Anyway, lets re-visit the much written about Bond Watches. Along with Cars and women this is another area where the character displays great taste and style. However, the only thing he really chooses or seduces is the women, we know that Q (not @QueTip) chooses his cars and watches. So, Q is the man. The great thing for Bond, unlike us, is he gets them all for free. So here we go, some but not all of the 007 watches. Hours of research watching and freeze framing went into this thread lol. Joking of course but now since this watch hobby (addiction) has overcome me I cannot watch a Bond film without my finger hovering over the pause button for those minuscule glimpses of 007 arm candy. Rolex 6538. There has been some debate over the years regarding what Rolex Sean Connery wears and the provenance of it. However due to the advent of DVD and Blue Ray it is now fairly obvious. As @Thrasher is tired telling people the Connery sub is a 6538 big crown, with a silver triangle and a 2 line metres first gilt dial. The strap was generally considered to be an admiralty grey nato. We now know it was a black red and green undersized RAF strap. It was also worn on a Black leather strap in Dr. No. and From Russia with love. The RAF strap appeared in Goldfinger. Again, in Thunderball the 6538 tells the time while the Breitling Top Time tells supplies the Geiger counter. My version is the Helenarou Connery Submariner. It is a work of art in my biased opinion. Rolex 5513 An early appearance of the 5513 is displayed by George Lazenby in “On her Majesty’s secret service”. It was made more prominently worn by Roger Moore in “Live and Let Die” and “Diamonds are forever”. It had the buzzsaw bezel in “Live and Let Die” and a handy magnet for disrobing young ladies. Apart from the quirky bezel it has a feet first 2 line dial. The weird thing is when I was searching for images the photos of my watch and rivet bracelets are all over the internet lol so here it is my @JohnnyLazar built “Live and Let Die”.

  7. We wish to formally welcome RWI moderators @Yllekp, @Raddave, @xj4sonx Please help us welcome these guys, who are outstanding gentlemen and moderators from next door, and who are congregated here while RWI is in the process of coming up and being better than ever. To help differentiate them from the REAL newbies, we have opted to affix assign their member title as "RWI moderators", so that you do not accidentally write them off as newbies, and so that the ordinate amount of respect and recognition can be given to these fine gentlemen when they are here, post counts and join-dates nonwithstanding. Just a warning, all of them bite, and any illusion of coziness during encounters with the above is temporary and apt to fade the moment you start asking them who has the best sub. Now y'all have been warned, run along and play nice. Thank you @Nanuq for the hospitality, and making me do the dirty work once again. I will much rather be having that rib-eye you just showed me Big B. @Mike on a bike, @Sogeha, @kernow

  10. Nobody can tell man. Buy this one - it's unique and cool https://puretime05.com/submariner-16610-lv-green-no-rehaut-engraving-jf-1-1-best-edition-on-ss-bracelet-sh3135.html If you want better than that, you're getting into franken territory, like a Sean case, gen dial, bezel etc... I had one for sale recently, sold for $2,000 with a gen bracelet.

  17. Humble collection LMAO Loving those Pateks I had someone bore the pants off me and many others when he bought a YM II and explaining the superiority and functionality of it. I was wearing a Casio chrono at the time and I was perfectly happy to use that to count down to the race mark. It still did not make him a better sailor lol. So by deduction if you want to become a better sailor buy a Casio not a Rolex.

  18. Being a gen owner of TT Daytona, TT sub, Pam 88 and Bentley 30sec . Most of my social circle knows I carry good tastes in time pieces. I stick to SS in rep world to add variety and flavor to my mix, love what the hobby has become with quality and detail however refrain from pieces out of my league or wrapped gold. Thanks Don'

  19. I’m willing to bet a dollar to ten that what you get in real life when wearing this is “nice watch dude!” or the equivalent. The intricacies of the details are mostly for the forum members to debate over. In real life this will pass as a gen Rolex where most people are concerned, as long as the wearer looks the part. 20. Both based on cartel case and venus mvmt. Best you can get without going the v72 road but still not dirt cheap. Good vn dials with gen crown cost 300+ and to machine a vn bezel to fit the cartel case is another story[emoji849] I currently have 2 v72 and 2 more in the making but also wear the venus very often Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  22. Yikes. Someone could write pages answering that and not scratch the surface. Best thing to do is read, look at pictures and read some more. It will take time but in the end you'll know everything about your new pride and joy. There's satisfaction in that.

  25. +1. For your first AP, and since both are divers, go for the non chrono version. It will save you some potential issues and also, I doubt you will be playing with the chronos at all. Chronograph functions these days serve mostly aesthetic purposes and serve to pretty (or clog up depending on who you ask) the dial and lend a touch of sophistication to it. Adding my $0.02 worth to @kernow's $0.02, you now have $0.04 cents worth of opinions, which is twice the weightage of most opinions you see since most of them are self-valued at $0.02 by their respective posters.

  26. Bare in mind that the chronograph uses the infamous A7750 movement. These are well known to be less reliable than non chrono movements. If you don’t play with the chrono function often it should be ok, but for a more reliable movement go for a non chrono. Just my $0.02 worth!

  30. You just gave me permission to pimp you out Totally agree brother. Recently it was taking me 3 hours plus to get through PMs and alerts and that is if I stayed away for only 8 hours. It was getting nuts. I stayed away from the fora a bit as the actions of that hacker really got to me. Now I am just having fun and getting to read about stuff for once instead of spending every minute of my free time on speed on RWI.

  31. Here's a quick shot of my DW with a V72 and a vintage watchmaker dial I just kind of finished this watch. The watchmaker got a couple of spots on the dial and the chrono seconds hand lost it's arrow point so I need a new one of those. The crystal has some scratches and dust on it. The first v72 came down with a bad chrono seconds wheel (part #8000) so I had to swap in another V72. Both are out of Wittnauers. The DW case started out as a 6238/9 with a Phong 6238 dial and the 6239 bezel. Then I bought a Phong 6238 case but I was never happy with the dial so I sold the 6238 dial to Ken down in Australia- he fixed the dial with a little bit of paint. So I had this DW case and bought the Vintage Watchmaker dial from Jensen- it was a very nice dial, but I dropped the watch and a marker fell off the dial and I guess those spots are possibly glue since my watchmaker glued the 2 o'clock marker back on. The white subdial hands came from Phong- nice and thin!

  35. DW cases were great for the price- around $200-300 as I recall. Dials varied but some were very good. Here's an Albino 6239 This one has a 7750 movement. DW also had V72 cases and dials and I just built one of those- actually it was a DW case and a Vintage Watchmaker dial- a panda 6239, will get a picture of it later. As for a comparison to a Phong case, I would say Phong is good but it's hard to pass up a DW case at $200-300
