  1. " a tutone black dial acrylic crystal submariner " This would be a 1680, but Rolex didn't make a TT 1680! Only SS and Gold! Of course a lot of people have gone back and made them- it's not hard to do. Gold bezel, correct insert, gold hands and a gold crown. TT bracelets aren't that hard to come by either and if you were really industrious you could put the gold nipple dial in there, but I like the MK1 or MK2 white dials myself!
  2. Yeh J, I thought about you and was thinking this would be a nice franken build. Finding the dial would be the key. With a swiss eta it would be a damn good watch! I did check Josh and Andrew and they don't have a 79280, or 79260 or 79270. @robpatte- check ebay for rep bracelets and end pieces.
  3. You might try google! I just saw an oyster bracelet- looked like a 78360 with 605 end pieces. You want a Tudor emblem on the clasp- don't know where you'd get that- might look on ebay. Can you find a rep of the 79280? Maybe you could get a bracelet that way. Sorry I can't be of more help.
  4. I guess because the patents have long ago expired, maybe????
  5. Welcome to the world of Rolex! Things are always changing so it's not that big a deal.
  6. I think it's overpriced. The movement is nothing great- asian clone decorated to look like a 3135- who cares! Are the end links plated on the sides of the center link? This is the biggest tell on these two tone bracelets. But Puretime doesn't show you a pic of the sides of the end links so you don't know. Sure you could put it on a croc strap, but that defeats the purpose of having a nice TT 116613. I'd pass on this myself.
  7. I'd probably do the 702. Most red subs date from '69- '74.
  8. Like the last watch - the Explorer with the white dial- where did that dial come from?
  9. I'm with highoey on this- get the 702 crown and tube. It's more appropriate for the white 1680 sub which dates from the 70s when the 702 crown and tube was used. The 700 crown and tube dates from the 60s- good for an early 5513-5512.
  10. This really comes down to which one you like the best- they're both good reps. Both need to have the crown guards trimmed, both could use a gen crown, maybe you age the dials. If you mess with the crystals, that's when you'll have a challenge and might have to change out the bezel assembly for a more gen like one- so maybe you don't mess with the crystals. And you might have to service the 2846-2 but that's not a big deal IMO- it's the best movement for those two watches.
  11. The 2834-2 and the 2836-2 are practically the same. I've even seen 2836-2s with the day across the top like the 2834-2. So probably a few parts were swapped out to make it like a 2834-2. You should probably shoot for a 2834-2 movement, but as droptopman says, get with MMM.
  12. You can sell a Rolex to a pawn shop w/o papers- I'd bet 90% of Rollies sold don't have papers.
  13. No telling where he got that dial from. You could always buy it as a project watch and then get a decent dial and bracelet.
  14. Try his ebay store http://www.ebay.com/itm/171641398405?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT this is the 700 crown and tube, but I'm sure you can find his 702 crown and tube!
  15. Nice job, E really knows his late model subs! But that dial looks like a c.1985 Beyeler to me.
  16. The 700 crown and tube ran from 1960 til maybe 1970. Gasket in the case tube and one in the crown at the base of the stem holder. 702 had three dots, hence trip-lock designation. Two gaskets in the tube and one in the crown. Ran from early 70s til a 1980 or so. 703 has three dots on crown and four gaskets- two inside case tube and one on the outside and one in the crown.
  17. Actually Phong can modify a 16000 DJ case and then you can build a ss DD- with the 1556 movement (or 1555). Trick is finding the dial that goes with it. This is a 1803 type DD that I built 3-4 years ago. White dial w/ silver sticks came from Phong's wife or whoever in the Phoenix area. Phong modded the case and my watchmaker serviced the movement and put it together
  18. A 6239 takes a 6mm crown. For the 6263, you need a 7mm crown and tube- the Athaya crown and tube work well- the 702 series. Or a 703 crown and tube is also ok.
  19. Looking good J! But I would prefer a riveted oyster on there in lieu of the mesh
  20. I think he's referred to as JAW- jewelryandwatch or Phong as we call him. And yes, it looks like he's added a line of eta subs and a 1665 SD. http://jewelryandwatch.com/contents/en-us/d251_Submariners__and_Sea-Dweller.html They're kind of pricey, but if the case is good, it may be worth it. Too bad they come on a NATO and not a 93150 ss bracelet. And for those vintage subs and SD, too bad he doesn't use a 2846-2
  21. The old smoke treatment is where you say put the dial in a container and blow smoke in there. Maybe it's cigarette smoke, maybe some smoke from some burning paper, anything that will give the dial an aged look. I've never done it myself, but have seen it used around here a few times. Spraying a light coat of matte varnish might also give the dial a little color and an aged look. This wouldn't be the clear varnish, but one that has an aged tint to it.
  22. Looking good! I'd still like to see a tinge of brown on there- maybe a tea or coffee bath, or the old smoke treatment
  23. The CousinsUK has the correct side profile- like a Rolex crystal. As for the greasy part, that's going to happen with any sapphire crystal- they aren't as nice as a plastic crystal in that respect. Even my gen subs show fingerprints- I just keep wiping with my shirt- old t-shirts are the best!
  24. Why don't you just order a 25-295-C2 crystal from CousinsUK- a lot quicker and cheaper and they have a nice 295-C crystal.
  25. Send it back! A watchmaker wouldn't be able to machine threads on there- might ask jmb if he can.
