The only thng that I can says it that watch is that it'd look better idiot was on my wrist! Seriously, send it over to me and I'll show you! Nice purchase!
-
First off this was not from a rep, rather an used Invicta that I got off of eBay for a song and a dance. I am going to do a movement swap with one of my reps with an a2824 that is in not so good shape, marked as ETA and the stamps look clean to me but then again I am not an expert. Given the price of ETA movements these days it wouldn't surprise me that more donor watches are facing the chopping blocks! Only reason that I would even be suspicious is if someone already did a movement swap and re-listed it without stating that particular detail. I have a pic of the stamps on the main plate and tried to get a pic of the hair spring jewel.

Right, which is where my mind was headed....
-
Totally was expecting to see something different!

. Marti sounds like either the end of your stem snapped off and is still inside the movement or the keyless works got fouled up. Either way would likely require uncasing of the movement, removal of dial and hands to get a look. If it's just a keyless works issue then it'd need to be reset otherwise if the end of the stem did break off its need to be removed and a new stem sourced. Time to call for help if your not adventurous.

If all else fails and you can't get it try Offshore, member here, former mod and has a website that sells Lume Master and it is claimed almost as good as TriTec at about 1/10th the price. You can check it out here: http://watchbitz.com.au/shop/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=451 It comes in 10 gram bags, should be enough to several watches, for about 30 USD. Y201 is the blue stuff, I have a bag of the G101 inbound and can let you know my thoughts when it gets here. If you want some reviews of the product go to the other rwg and check out the posts about it, the guys over there seem love it.

A fun project! *****Vintage Aircraft Clock*****

nah, what you need to do is put it on an oversized gold chain to wear around the neck and sell to Flavor Flav. Bling with a capitol "B"! -

Congrats, it will likely be quickly followed with many more so should just jump in with both feet next time!

Did you use tincture of iodine or providone iodine? Tincture uses an organic solvent (usually ethanol) and that might be a source of your problems where providone is water based. Unless by wiped the lume out you mean darkened it such that it didn't glow, which in that case this mod was kinda of supposed to darken the lume to look like vintage tritium lume while has no glow.

Definitely deserves a palm to the face, I get it from my family, friends, heck my wife even showed me a cheapie POS on Amazon and said "I know you like watches, look at this..." But is it really any different than with any other hobby? From the inside looking out it's hard to explain to an outsider. If they don't share the passion then to them it's just a watch. I get the same thing with my cycling. It also goes with if someone looks at it as a utilitarian device to mark the passing of time or as a fashion accessory or as a piece of horological history. Probably no different than a typical guy looking at a woman's shoe collection, "she's only got two feet, why does she need 50 pairs of shoes?"

This indeed a good tip and one worth reminding! I use Pedro's Ice Wax, similar stuff as Rock n Roll but it's what I use on my bike and figured since it worked great on my bike (always the cleanest drivetrain in the group!) it would work great on the bracelet! The key here is to use a "dry lube", goes on wet and when it dries it leaves a layer of lipids (waxes) right where you need them that keep working without attracting dirt to the bracelet that a oily lube would.

So I got drunk and bought two watches... Do you like them BIG?

Mike, they've got penicillin for that.... -

Or do what I do when I get put off of reps, buy second hand micro (or smaller) brands! I have had luck with getting good deals on WUS for brands like DeepBlue, Raven/benarus, Steinhart, etc. usually come with ETA (Swiss ofcourse) sapphire crystals, quality builds etc.

Well here is some food for thought.... If the shaved CGs are the deal breaker then don't buy either of the last two. If you like the shaved CG look then look around for a good quality sub that will take well to heavy mods. Look at either the BP or Noob V2/3 116610 as many guys say they good to mod. BP is probably best bet as most guys say it's the bracelet on the BP not the watch head that is crap. That said toro has the old Noob c sub in his special section for a decent price if you go that route. If you buy a standard sub rep and build it from scratch, PVD coating is likely to cost you > $150 if not more. You'd have to get the watch completely disassembled, send to get CGs shaved (if you get one with them), send to the coaters, get it reassembled. Modder is likely to charge you maybe $50 to remove the CGs. This also lends itself to any extra issues that might pop up as the modder removes and reinstalls the crown tube etc.... I'd suggest you start with contacting a modder that can do this and let him know what your looking for and see what they suggest you start with and how much they'd charge. This amount of work is likely to cost a few bucks above the cost of the watch.

I think there are repd, don't know about the quality. but if not can get close by getting a sub rep, 16610 (or even a 116610 if you want), shave the cg and get a pearl mod with black instead of lume. If you build it yourself it won't have the red text so at that point your building a fantasy so go for what ever you can get your hands on to start the project. If I were doing it I'd get a 116610, that way the dial will have the maxi markers which I prefer. Shave the cg, do a pearl mod then send it off to get pvd coated and your pretty close.

Could always go for a Casio g-shock

Maybe we should be asking our wife's to squeeze the balls and see how many watches we can open up then?
-
Wow, wonder how much that costs. Then and now...

For me in the end it's about having a quality dependable timepiece on my wrist and less about having a particular brand on my wrist. I have had my fair share of reps that pass thru my hands but most of them leave. When I start feeling left out in the cold as far as quality I start buying micro brands. Usually even then I buy m2m from WUS. Most are outstanding quality and a really good price too! That said I have a few moderately priced gens, PO, Tag Link Chrono a Raymond Weil Nabucco. I never worry about will those watches work the next time I want to wear them. I usually have that worry with my reps for some reason or another. Currently 4 of my 6 reps have an issue with them at the moment! One just up and stopped on me the other day, it had been serviced previously so who knows what happened, so off to get looked at! The others have smaller issues that I just live with but keep them from being 100%. So yes I prefer the price of the typical rep that allows for me to flip them and move on when I get board but it's hard to flip a broken watch! It def feels like a ball and chain with so much tied up in just a few higher priced gens, but like I said I know that there is likely not going to be a glaring quality issue with them so I don't mind the occasional gen. -
Fraggle - should consider adding Tempestwatches.com they have an outstanding 2000 meter diver and are currently working on an exciting 500m full titanium diver.

Just bought this kit. Will I need any more essentials?

Well, you get what you pay for. For what you said you want to do this set will be up to the task and then some. Just not going to get a surprise bang for your buck.
