I discovered Panerai reps not too long ago and as I was clicking through thousands of images, I noted that the models that stuck out the me were the Pre-Vs. I didn't know what they were at the time, but my eye latched onto their dials. The bold, rough etched numbers and contrasting printing. the white hands and non-matching dials. I had to have one...but I as I searched and discovered that the out of the box options were few and the best reps were all hand made by masters. I spent hours looking at all the builds by Projectologist and w0lf with dials by FGD and Southy, just to name a few of the greats and I figured what they hell, I'll give it a shot. So here's my first build... The 5218-203A I'm a sucker for seconds at 9 so I had to start there, also my collection was sorely lacking a PVD watch and while the shape isn't perfect for Pre-V, the PVD is, so I chose the DSN newborn case. What amazing quality, I'm in total awe of the DSN PVD case. Here's the recipe: DSN Newborn PVD Case DSN Crystal DSN double gasket, spring loaded crown DSN Crown guard Jakob Caseback DSN Dial FGD Hands with white-ish non aged lume Grimlock flattened and polished H3 canon pinion set Swiss 6497 Dirk Tan Strap First, let me say that without a light box, it's virtually impossible to photograph a non-AR watch....I will try to get some better pics later. This is easily my favorite watch I have ever owned and it's only going to get better when I get a new dial (I have been begging an expert to make me one, FGDs are too scarce;), if you know of one let me know!) Overall I love the DSN PVD, but it already has a few nicks and I've barely worn it. I'm not sure how tough it is. The Spring Loaded Crown is awesome and honestly the shape of the CG is really close. I take the comments about the lever being off. But seriously the only obvious tell is the back edge near the pin that should be curved and rounded off instead of flush with the rest of the CG body. Other than that, it's an amazingly accurate Pre-V CG. The slope and the thickness of the CG body is perfect to my untrained eye. Nice work Davidsen!!! Before you ask about the white, "non-matching" hands... I understand there was no "non-matching" 203/a's but I have seen a ton of pictures where the dial has aged, but the hands haven't. The DSN Hands match the dial but I like the pictures I have seen where the white pops out against the vintage numbers and indices. I took my inspiration from photos like this one Here is the DSN CG versus the Gen CG, the lever is far different. DSN's is too squared off with few contours, but the CG body is darn close. Nay-sayers...I scoff at you. I say, "that'll do" DSN Lever Gen Lever DSN Profile Gen Profile Another major comment is the lugs, of course. Everyone here knows about the lugs on the Pre-V. DSN's don't maintain the fat and short profile of the Pre-V case. They seem to be missing about 0.5mm off the top edge. Second... the downward angle seems to be too severe. This case looks like it has too much cushion shape. Maybe closer to the 6502 case? See below, at least I think the DSN case could be shaped into a good 6502. Hopefully we'll get a newborn--newborn case that fixes the lugs for Pre-V uses. Maybe davidsen can take a mold of the 111J? DSN 6502 PVD Profile About the Dial, the DSN is a very respectible effort. Where else for $50 can you get a milled brass dial, hand lumed and shaped with reasonable accuracy? This no Southy or FGD dial, but it's damn nice for the price and obviously not as rare. The major difference is the over all thickness of each marker. I swear if everything gained about 0.25mm they would get spot on GEN! the font on the printing seems to be correct as well!!! this dial seems to be so close lacking in a few seemingly minor details that really take away from it's gen feel. This is a huge opportunity here for DSN to send his sales through the roof. I adjusted the contrast here so you can see the true thickness of the markers... My build is run by an undecorated Swiss ETA 6497. This is actually, the exact movement that Panerai used in some of the PAM318. So it's technically GEN!!! You can't forget about the Dirk strap. This is a Dirk tan which is the original color that came with the 203a. If you've always wondered why a strap would cost $150-200, Do yourself a favor and try one out. You will quickly learn where the money goes. This is the most comfortable strap I have ever had. Last but not least is the Jakob Caseback. The DSN is really nice for the money, but I thought I'd try out the Jakob for my first build. I wasn't sure at first, but it has really grown on me The more pics I see, the more I realize the engraving is very close to gen, although I think he combines different elements of different gen casebacks making or kind of a mish-mash of different gen properties. For example on this 203a I think the serial number should be the smaller stamped style like DSN. Overall, I would say bravo to DSN for the amazing PVD work and look toward the future for hopefully a newborn---newborn case that fixes the lugs and dial. I love this watch. I Just have a few more tweaks to go to be done. I'm searching high and low for a good FGD 203a dial and also harassing Steph_Dexter to make me one;) Then with the hands, I was so excited to get the build together that I forgot to file down the bottom of the minute hand so it sits flush with my polished CP....Oh well, when I swap dials I'll fix that one. Whilst cleaning out the watchbox and project bins I stumbled upon a long forgotten relic that made me realize that newer folks probably never got a chance to see some of these. The hunk of metal lurking in the bottom of the parts bin was this PAM088. It all starts some 8-9 8ish years ago with n H Factory PAM089. The 089 is a weird story. I bought it with the Ted Su hornback strap and the movement took a [censored]. Sent it in to misiekped and it was botched and I needed to find another A7750 to repair it. It took me a while but eventually I came across another 089 with the same movement and thought it was good to go but alas it was giving me issues as well so I shelved it and the search continued. That's when the 088 came up. So that one arrives and it turns out it was misadvertised and has a slowbeat movement. A comedy of errors at this point stretching on and on. My life got busy and I left the rep hobby behind for a good while. Years later I pull the 089 out and it's back to life. Still functioning to this day. Strangest thing. I figure the other 089 is probably in a box of spare parts somewhere on Mike's bench or hopefully it brought some other unfortunate watches back to life. The Davidsen Fiddy Destro was purchased back around that same era. This has a caseback engraved with RXW indicating that this would have been a rep of what was essentially a high end rep. Another strange case for the rep files of yesteryear. It's a beautifully done watch though with a Swiss movement, torch lume, and a beautiful strap by Blue Radish. The 088 and 089 are both on Ted Su straps, the 088 wearing a Ted Su ammo strap, and the 089 wearing baby hornback in grey to match the anthracite dial and titanium case. One of my favorite watches I've collected in years of collecting. Long since obsolete and rare these days, I'm glad I found the 088 in my box of spare parts. It took me down a road of nostalgia and fun memories.

Hello again all. Its been about a year since Iast posted any eye candy from my then obsession, ARF GMT SH3186. Since coming back, I've noticed the buy/ sell section is gone, or I can't seem to find it. I wish to respect the rules, and not try to get banned trying to advertise without permission. I've got a VRF 41 mm Datejust, on oyster w vs3235, as well as a VRF Panerai pam438 Luminor Ceramica "tuttonero" with VR 9001/B black movement. I have others as well, always buying and collecting. Since the raids, its been harder to get high quality Rollies... Id like some info. I've owned 2 PAM104s so far. Both were from the same RWG-recommended dealer and they lasted about 5 years each before stopping. Looking to buy a 3rd. Which is the best version and where is a good place to purchase one? I've searched all the forums and most of the info is years old. Here are 2 versions that I am looking at for possibilities: TrustyTime PAM104SW01 PerfectClones PAM104N01 I recall posts regarding series and factories, but am unsure as to what that means. I presumed the later letters of the alphabet are newer generations, but from the pictures of the 2 above, the 'N01' appears newer than the 'SW01'. Thanks in advance, 🤠

Hey guys, long time member here can't believe it's been a decade... Back in the days there were some really amazing things happening - accuarte pre-V crown guards, FGD's custom run of super accurate dials (still have one of his dials) and others, custom crowns, custom period correct lume etc etc Then there was rolli with his amazing work teasing everyone with his spectacular museum quality pieces. To tell you the truth this was something really exciting - seeing passionate people prototype, make and share for the love of these interesting and rare timepieces, pretty much like art making. Some of the pieces that can't out during that era were trully unbelievable works of art in my view. Is any of this happening in the PAM background today? Any interesting custom dial work? Cases? Movements? Or are we stuck again with what cartel give us? You'd think with all the advanced technology in last 5 years with accessible CNC and 3d printing there would be truly amazing possibilities for watch makers. Anyone?

I started this topic because i wanted to know of my panera is real or replica. The most specification on this watch are like the real one. *the glass doesn't reflect any blue colors. *the markings inside on the movement looks like they are burned in. (not strange bleu) *this watch keeps very good time *There is a serialnumber inside (swiss markings) *The crown guard doesn't feel loose or anything, feels pretty good *Sandwish dial is very nice. Are they other opnions regarding this watch to prove that is a rep or a real one?

Hi, I bought a nice PAM088 from KW and now 8-12 months later the wheel to set the time and change date is slipping like the teeth are worn down or something. It is getting hard to set the correct time or wind up the watch. Is this an easy fix? I talked to KW and they said they could fix it but it is a long way to send the watch from Sweden just for this. Suggestions on how to fix this?

I owned a 112 which I recently lost so have a PAM510 coming to me by way of replacement. I'm left with all of the packaging (inner/outer box, warranty card, bezel protector etc) from the 112 along with the rubber strap (no buckle). Do you think these items have "reasonable" value and are worth selling? I looked on ebay and Chrono24 and have seen similar for sale, but am not sure of true worth. Thoughts?

My new H Factory PAM89 is lovely but has what looks like oily smudges between the lugs. Soapy water and gentle brushing hasn't helped. Does anyone have any recommended cleaners for Titanium or tricks of the trade? I suspect that this smudgy patch is related to the wrapping on the case during the period in storage or shipping. thanks!

Is there a way to take apart the watch without damaging it or needing tools? ~ thinking I may sell it to someone who can repair it or wants it for parts.

Thx to Repwatch´s extraordinary post of his unique wonderful piece I started to admire this watch and got really into this but could neither afford the gen nor build a Franken. First I looked at the Marina Militare but than destiny struck and I found a solution, so after many sleepless nights and one month visiting the above post I happily present to You, in the most unconventional way, serious Purists beware (I love and I am into vintage, no seriousness intended here, this is a hommage), an addition to my fast-growing collection: the famous PAM203 (2005), originally with vintage Angelus movement, only available to some 150 selected few. Just look how the golden hands, specially the small second hand reflect the sun on the glass from the inside:) This 47 mm stainless steel case with a sandwich chocolate/grey dial is historically correct and simply magnificent! The gold hands, sub second hand and logo's " Luminor Panerai" and "8 Giorni Brevattato" 8 giorni means 8 days and brevettato means patented, referring to the original sixty year old and large sized, handwound Angelus SF calibre 240, 8 days power reserve, give this watch character that no other watch has... or ever will have again. Here is the famous and still ultra-secret Panerai-secret: “how to make modern USD out of old italian lire trick”: (Research from Dadog13: Mr. Ferretti sold them to Panerai in the 1996 - 190 pieces // each priced 110.000 lire italiane (about 60 usd each in 1996) http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/99316-nos-angelus-sf240-pam203pam267/ link with sublink). Et voilà: Today possibly worth 110.000 Usd. The patented device protecting and locking the crown tops this watch off. CG lever points upwards. Both versions were made, with downpointing CG also. Of course it has Reg. Tm. engraved in the crown guard. Dial: brown, with luminous hour markers and Arabic numerals. It consists of two superimposed discs: the top one is perforated with the numerals and hour markers while the lower one was covered with a thin layer of Super Luminova Small seconds at 9 o'clock on the left and the legendary 8 Giorni Brevettato symbol painted in white near the 3´position complete the balance. DIMENSIONS: 47mm x 13.5mm WEIGHT: 126 grams Vintage Mods (here is where the fun part really starts): Crystal: removed the original sapphire, made from corundum, 2 mm thick. Anti-reflective coating. Replaced with Plexiglas. the Plexy gives a superb look, very warm, to the whole watch, and especially the dial. The gold dials reflect on it. Tried to catch the fantastic domed shape and the reflecting edges of the huge Plexiglas in sunlight. Also close look onto the sandwich dial of this Vintage Panerai in the pics. The “Open Six” carries the DNA of the brand from the 1930s until today. Crown-lock: applied some vintage rust, than applied the gluegun trick to make it feel more hefty and solid; tried to replace the crown with a vintage Rolex seadweller crown but it did not fit with the CG-mechanism so had to remove it again. Rolex actually made all vintage Panerai watches, from 1936 through 1956 (Jake Ehrlich). Movement: first removed the vintage 8 days Angelus SF 240 movement (cost of just 60 USD back in the nineties) because it had only 15 rubis and was very lowbeat at only 18.000 bhp; the Angelus powered divers where used by Panerai in the 50´s and 60´s but I wanted to go more to the Rolex-made Style of the 30´s and 40´s. So because of the Rolex connection I replaced it with a more gen-like Rolex Cal. 618 / Type 1 with some dust in it. Both where antique and HANDWOUND, so finally decided to put a more modern automatic movement in: MOVEMENT: Asian 21j automatic, keeps perfect time now! Greatest power reserve I have in a 21j also! Just don´t look at it. Solid case back: After changing the movement couldn´t stand the looks of the 21j, so the see-through sapphire glass had to go and was replaced with a nice, solid SS caseback (not yet engraved with a pig-torpedo and “Kampfschwimmer” – lettering and dating of probably 1944 which I will do with a Dremel, but already well-brushed with steel wool) Water resistance: after modding: tested to 0,00 metres (originally 100 metres); waterproofing to at least 200 ATM intended Lume: the original Superluminova applied to the sandwich dial looked too bright for the look of a 73 year old watch. Different to the “Luminor” substance used in later produced watches and instruments, “Radiomir” , patented 1915 by Guido Panerai (he did not know then it was a million more times radioative than uranium and that it has a half-life of 1602 years, neither did Marie Curie) does not react instantly under the impact of light anymore in 2013, here is a vintage sample of a "Kampfschwimmer" - combat diver: oh, this didn´t work.... so the Superluminova was scratched off this pam PAM 203 to give it a more vintage look. Once the human eye has been in total darkness for a couple of hours, the remaining glow of the simulated “Radiomir” substance now becomes visible. Strap: Ordered an original vintage 8 Giorni Brevettato symbol, authentic hand made WWII Ammo strap made from 65 year old army leather pouches and José Maria over in Spain promised it would be ready for me this week, making this package complete and spectacular! Hello guys, my first post here! From SF. I have a collection of both reps and gens. I just received my noob v4 Pam 111, the watch looks gorgeous, but it will not function. i wind it all the way till the click stopped, and nothing happens? If I wind all the way till I can't wind any more, and turn it little more and clamp it down there with the clamp , the movement then moves and watch works for maybe half a minute then stops again? any possible help would be greatly appreciated. thank you!! steve

The new PAM00676 & 677 could be a game changer for Panerai. I have a lot of friend who love the Pams but find them too massive. Hey all, Looking to buy my first quality Panerai rep (not purchased in some back room in Shanghai with minimal knowledge or awareness of different factories/makers) and was curious for some experienced advice. I was thinking of going simple and sweet, possibly a V3 111 or a 000 or 005 ( I like the base, and logo look), but then saw this deal being offered by Trusty and was intrigued by the possibility of getting two very different looking watches (primarily in case and dial color/finish) for the price of one. Trusty PN785 2 in 1 Question I have is whether anyone knows anything about the quality of the reps in the PN785 2 for 1 deal. I do like the look of both watches (and of course the ability to instantly own/wear 2 different looks), but if they are not particularly good quality reps, I'd just as soon get a single, well-repped watch from the list above .. and maybe a couple straps to create the different looks. Thanks for any comments/advice.
