  1. Obviously you can't judge or compare a vintage with a new SD insert. I didn't realize from your first post that it was supposedly forty years old. If I was purchasing it, I'd still be concerned about the numbers not being centered though. It would bother me even if it was gen.
  2. I'm not saying it's not gen but it doesn't look much like the gen insert on my SD. The pearl's too small and the numbers and the stick bars aren't centered on the insert. Nor does the printing look as crisp, particularly the 5.
  3. I think I've go about $800 in mine including gen bracelet. But I doubt if it could be done again that cheaply since the price of cases and WG bezels has gone up considerably. It is one of my favorites.
  4. There's a watch smith in Chicago that's good with 7750 movements and trusted on a couple of the other forums. If you think Chicago isn't too far you might PM him Speedygwatch (at) Gmail.com
  5. I think you're building a GMT without a GMT movement.
  6. As FxrAndy says, it's almost impossible to fit a DWO on the standard 2893-2 movement. The H4 set installed is a must for Rolex reps. A seller on RWI had one for sale ready to go for $200 last week if it's still available. Look for greg325i...........
  7. That's a fairly new Asian movement. I doubt there's much info about the reliability on that one. Since the movement isn't seen, I'd ask for the same watch with the much cheaper Asian GMT movement the DG 3804 which is a true GMT movement.
  8. It's called "cut and test, cut and test, cut and test".

  10. He's talking about the bezel, not the insert. The original SSD comes off pretty easy. No idea about the new one.
  11. Wrapped is the heavier micron quality plating and yes, he can get them with either sterile of fully branded with Rolex markings.
  12. If you're looking for a good rep TT DJ bracelet I got the one below from an eBay seller. He can be emailed at: Riwi002@sina.com He'll shoot you some pictures of the bracelet and he's very nice to deal with. I went with the wrapped at about $70 but he also has the cheaper ion plated. It has the correct marked end links and bracelet.
  13. Almost everybody has dealt with them. They are quite trustworthy, although often not the lowest prices. Joshua's customer service is generally excellent. Just make sure you are actually on the correct web site since there are a lot of clones of their site, which aren't so dependable.
  14. Gen insert is a must. On mine it snapped right in just like a gen watch. Other than that, I think you're good. I always liked the original Noob bracelet on the SSD. I think it'll be hard to beat unless you just didn't get one with a good fit. I doubt that you'll find the TC bracelet different enough to make it worthwhile.
  15. Chris at CLS Watches is in Pasadena: http://www.clswatch.info/CLS/services.html Reasonable prices and a TD on other forums.
  16. I'm not so sure that someone who just sold a gen would be happy with a rep that's $47 including shipping.
  17. Best I can do is this watch came out about the time I graduated from college. It could be my graduation present.
  18. Unfortunately, he never did a part 2. I think life got in the way.
  19. Maybe this will help:
  20. I've got a SS presidential bracelet that I lightly modified the end links to fit a gen DJ case, before I found a gen jubilee bracelet. Let me know if you want it and I'll send it your way.
  21. The engraved bridge on the movement is really bad.
  22. I'm pretty sure the one he's looking for is one for the 2671. I remember buying one like his for a 2846 from an eBay seller from Egypt but now I can't find the seller. Also note from that web site: "If you are unsure which stem you need - please do ask and we'll try and help you."
  23. Try here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ETA-watch-stems-many-popular-sizes-listed-mechanical-and-quartz-New-/320788655037?pt=UK_Jewellery_Watches_WatchAccessories_SpareParts_SM&var=&hash=item4ab07e6bbd
  24. There's always Serti dials for sale on eBay . I'm not sure, they may be refinished or not, but they look nice.
  25. I built a decent vintage SD just for fun with an old MBW Sub case. Not quite correct but looked good. I gave it to my best friend's son (who's always called me uncle). He's a fireman and wore it to the station and got many great comments on it. Of course he just said it was a gift from his uncle. The chief of the station looked it over and tried to buy it from him. They were all commenting on how lucky he was to have such a generous "uncle". I loved hearing the stories from him.
