The different colors of screws indicates their strength. When you buy bolts at a hardware store, you will notice lines on the top of the bolt. No lines is standard, 3 lines is stronger, 6 lines is stronger still. In a watch they don't use lines on the screws, no room for them, so they use colors. Blue is a med strength screw. Black is stronger, silver is the standard and weakest of all.

Rolex Asia Rep/Swap in ETA 2836
mymanmatt replied to consciousness's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
I can do that for you. No need to buy anything, I have all the parts in stock. -
It won't turn enough to align it. Be sure you stem is pulled all the way out to remove it. Press the button that holds the stem very very little. Add a slight pull on the crown when you depress the button. A very slight outward pull. No you do not press the button when installing the stem. Push in gently and rotate back and forth a little. You will need to remove your date wheel overlay to realign it in the window.

I don't think it's a simple conversion. The hairspring and balance are for sure made as a pair. When singer changed their movement from 36 to 28,8, they came with a complete new movement. Must be a lot of changes
-
Be sure you get the correct crown. They come in 2 sizes. One is 6mm for the large tube, and one is 6mm for the small tube. The stem is a standard eta 2836. 2834, 2824 etc. You will need to cut the new stem to the correct length. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself, get some who is familiar with watches, watcsmith etc.

I would say try to pick one up for around $500 or so. Just be sure everything is there and that the balance swings freely and no signs of RUST anywhere. Then you can spend $400-$500 for a good service. And I mean a complete tear down. Then when it's all back together, you have a movement that you know the condition of. Then you can care for it for years to come, with no unexpected surprises.

Movement Suggestions for an Vintage Explorer I project
mymanmatt replied to juicemouse's topic in The Rolex Area
An eta 2783 is a good choice. It beats at 21,600 bph, not incobolic, and with the calendar disc removed you can set the dial right down on top of the movement. The result will be a stem position as good as if not better than a 2824-2. And, it's about half the price. -
they look the same to me

The best rolex rep, is the one that you really like. When you do get it, you won't care what the forum thinks, you'll love it, and in the end, that's all that really matters.

Are Chinese masters of knock-off and reps?
mymanmatt replied to paneristi_man's topic in General Discussion
They don't need to rep. 90% of the parts I buy from harley-davidson say made in china. As are shirts, shoes, electronics etc. I don't think american businesses can afford to build the parts here. Labor is way too high. S--t, the small flags I bought for the 4th of july, yep, made in china -
Customs moves at their own pace. Sometimes quicker than others. But never fast. Relax and be patient. It will be here before you know it

mymanmatt replied to droptopman's topic in General Discussion
Mark, I wouldn't scrap it yet. Just because someone elses parts don't fit, doesn't mean someone elses might Did I say that right? Well, you know what I mean LOL -
What would you pay for a genuine Sub Ceramic Bezel?
mymanmatt replied to juicemouse's topic in The Rolex Area
I do not think it would be wise to pay more than $500. I can promise the AD's don't pay more than $150. However, they have to return the one they are replacing, even though it's damaged -
LOVE IT!!

I need your help about a problem with a TD
mymanmatt replied to prdubis's topic in General Discussion
From the choice of words on the paypal message, Im not sure it's from paypal. Better ck that! As for your watches, I doubt you will get those watches. The TD should send you some new watches. However, the dealers do not return from CNY until feb18th. After that you should be able to resolve your problem. It may take a few more days, but you should eventualy get you watches. -
That watch is nearly impossible to replicate in a fashion that she would wear it
-
Well, they should not present it as 1-1 if it isn't. My cases will most definatly accept gen parts, to a point. The cases will accept, gen crown, gen bezel, gen crystal and gasket, gen dial, and gen bracelet. I don't consider them 1-1 because the case is slightly thicker and the lugs are not shaped exactly like the gen. Slight difference. The case back will not work on a gen case and vice versa. So, even though it will accept gen parts, I think a 1-1 description is wrong. They are waterproof just like the gen. But still, not an exact 1-1. If they tell you 1-1, don't believe it

Pretty watch

Lots of hard work there. 2 thumbs up to you. Nice job!!!

First is a date, too expensive. Second is a 70's era, too much money. That is probably why they are not at the show
-
It's been magnetized. You need to demagneitize it. Here is how you do that. Take an extension cord, cut the end off of it, trim the insulation from each wire, plug it into the socket. Now touch you movement with both ends. Be careful though. After you see the 110 volt spark, through that movement away and buy a new one, because it is toast. LOL PLEASE DON"T DO THAT iM ONLY KIDDING.

Modifying date wheels to fit a movement?
mymanmatt replied to watchguy51's topic in General Discussion
Yes. It requires a lot of sanding normally. If you have a dremel and patience, you can do it.
