  1. What do you think about the problems I've mentioned above? Does them bug only me? :)

I think you are very picky. My watches have problems too, but I say who cares! For ~$250 I get a watch worth ~$30000 If I wanted to replace all of my reps with their gen counterparts it would cost me over $1,500,000! I like to feel rich and look at a watch box worth "millions". I also have watches that are perfect and flawless like my Omega SMP chronometer and Vacheron Constantin 1755 Jubilee.

Many of my timepieces have small faults like you mentioned, but all of them keep good time (if not perfect COSC time) and you would have to have telescopic eyeballs with super-magnification to notice them if I were just walking down the street. These issues bothered me at first, like my PAM with dust under the crystal, but now I just don't give a hoot! And I'm much happier for it!

If I were into collecting gens I would have maybe one watch, the cheapest Omega or some kind of used decrepit Rolex. The watches offered by our dealers here are phenomenal, because they provide me with variety. One day I can wear a PAM, the other day a Rolex, no way I would ever be able to do that with the real deal. ...the fact that the former has dust under the glass does not override the fact that nobody even knows what a PAM is in hickville Canada.

I will never buy a genuine watch ever. Never ever ever... unless I win the lottery. If I win a gen, I'll sell it to get more reps!

    Just my opinion..

  2. CrystalCranium,

Do you think the "14K wrap" offered by our big-timers is worth the price? Do you think it will hold on better than the "18k plated" alternative. They claim I believe 15mil in terms of wrap (yea, right)...

Reason for my asking is that I am considering purchase of a TT sub in 14K wrap, but if you say that it will float off just as crappily as the rest then I may hold off on my buy...

Any advice would be appreciated :)

  3. I have recieved just one watch DOA in my collection of about 15. Strangely, it was a Swiss ETA 2871-2..

Most of my watches have something I call RPs - or Rep Quirks, odd little doo-dads that shouldn't be. For example,

-My Pam Luminor Power Reserve has dust underneath the crystal. It can barely be seen, though.

-My Turn-O-Graph has a small blemish inside the face that can only be seen under the correct light.

-My Sky-Moon Tourbillion has lots of mis-cut numerals that have little bruises on them. (I suggest observing yours under a magnifying class - none of these are every 'flawless')

-My first rep, a day-date full gold prez, has some gunk on the 6:00 hour marker.

On my Breitling Navitimer the whole face of the watch was attached ever so slightly crooked to the right, so if you scrutinize it for a long while you'll notice the subdial hands don't quite perfectly line up where they should..

The only flawless watches I have that are absolutely, perfectly trouble free:

    Omega SMP Chronometer.

    Vacheron Constantin 1755 Jubilee

    Omega GMT 2nd Ed.

Omega Two-Tone Deville (this one from narikaa... superb watch by the way, get them while their hot he still has two left I believe)

  4. ...may it be this guy was only clever enough to compliment you "out" of his shop...thats a very good way to tell someone "..we are not doing reps so go somewhere else to fool a dealer!"

    More than likely...

  5. I have a Rolex Full-Gold President (Tony Soprano watch) that was my first rep... I bought it on September 2006 and have worn it to meetings, presentations, special occasions, etc..

The gold plating has held on surprisingly well. Unfortunately, on the back side of the bracelet and around the clasp, some black fading has begun to occur. I don't know if this is normal tarnishing that can be fixed with a good clean or if the gold is simply wearing down myself - but whatever the case may be it is hardly visible at all!

I definitely recommend Joshua's gold-plated and gold-wrapped watches. He seems to carry the cream of the crop in terms of quality.

  6. I have to agree with you on the 'change of hearts'. I used to think very little of the Cartier brand, treating them mostly as a women-only line that did not appeal to me in the least. Then, my local jewelry store began carrying some of their watches, especially in men's versions - I was awestruck the first time I saw some of those pieces. With a unique and distinct design, they can be compared to Panerai in terms of their shape and style. Indeed, I would also consider purchasing a Cartier rep but only if it was reasonably priced, and reasonably accurate.

  7. "No pain, no gain and no watches"? That has to be the cheesiest tagline I've read to date. Let's randomly take a popular saying in English and then add a non-sequitur.

I think it makes sense if you think about it. Often, buying reps can be a difficult and tedious affair - with scammers everywhere, defective items, poor quality control, and the occasional irreversible loss of funds. However, if you keep at it and learn from your mistakes, you will persevere and gain knowledge and insight into the world of reps and perhaps even a few nice timepieces along the way!

  8. I've been wondering about a few of these sites myself. Let's see here...

http://www.jomashop.com/ (by far the biggest one I know)

    https://www.gemnation.com/index.jsp

    http://www.atlantictime.com/index.aspx

    http://www.finestwatches.com

http://www.alanfurman.com/ (this one is so graphic-heavy that my computer almost stalled)

    http://www.thewatchery.com

...all of these guys offer huge, huge savings on big-time genuine luxury brand name items. I would love to know if these are legit, because there are indeed some good savings to be had in terms of pens, etc.
