  1. My Rolex AD tried to bullsh*t me as well. When I purchased my preowned 16710, I took it to a local AD to a quick check. The young service guy (who looked more like a used cars salesman) claimed that my 16710 has "wrong oils" installed and wanted to take it in and charge 500€ for complete service. That sounded really weird to me and I asked Ziggy about it. He called out this crap and said that it's completely impossible for the naked eye to see what kind of oils have been installed.

The watch is +/- 1 seconds / 24h and has extremely long power reserve, runs smooth as silk. After this visit, I don't trust my Rolex AD at all. Friggin' bloodsuckers.

  2. Just for the record:

Ebel Discovery 1911 Chronograph is probably the best and most accurate replica watch ever created, just imho. The only flaw on this watch is the crown which doesn't screw in quite deep enough. Even the datewheel is exact on the rep. In my opinion, this was the "Rep of the Year 2008".

I posted some gen pics of this black version in this thread. Just compare the pics guys.

  3. I'm wearing a gen Rolex and driving a '06 Mercedes E-klasse (the watch in the pictures is just a rep though). :)

But I don't own the car I'm driving (it has been in my possession since it was brand new, because my stepfather's company has all kinds of complicated tax arrangements). I don't even care about cars much at all... and my yearly income is above average at best. The only real expensive possession is my apartment in a suburban area, which I have paid off 100%... started working when I was 15.

Wearing a Rolex and driving an expensive car doesn't necessarily mean you're rich (or even wealthy), just as my case proves. Maybe some people think that I'm a "poser" too... I don't know. I couldn't care less. What someone makes a year (or what watch he's wearing) doesn't have any significance to me. Bill Gates has all the money in the world but when he wakes up in the morning and looks at the mirror, he must realize that he's still a pathetic geek. :D

Real watch people buy expensive watches because they're high in their priority list, and they might not put money to other expensive things... is a $4K Rolex really that expensive if you really, really love watches? Every working adult in EU and the US can afford that if they want.

Real WIS also buy the watches for themselves... for their own, personal enjoyement. At least I do... rep or gen, doesn't make any difference to me. They're all just beautiful toys that I enjoy. I couldn't care less if people don't even notice them (they rarely do).

But yeah, I would feel a bit stupid to wear a rep of Patek Philippe Tourbillon. Not because it's ultra expensive, but it'd just feel stupid. I'm not some French lord living in a castle, just an average 36-year old working man. :D

  4. Awesome writeup Taka, this article has been "immortalized" in the TAG Guide, in all rep forums.

I'm among the biggest TAG fans in the community. Some TAGs really impress me... and this watch is a stunner as well. Somehow they manage to mix classic lines and ultra-modern styles in their design... successfully. In many ways, TAG is the most innovative watch brand of the "big four" at the moment (Breitiling, Omega, Rolex, TAG).

Watch people who say that model lineups like Aquaracer, Monaco, Link, Autavia and Carrera don't deserve "respect" should get their heads examined. :D I mean, what there is not to like in a modern & adventurous design like this... watch world would be hell of a boring place if everyone wore just black and white steel Subs.

  5. Thank you Gentlemen!

A few months ago Stephane posted a "WTB" for this watch. I almost sent the pm and was ready to trade my GMTIIc to him, thinking that maybe he could appreciate this fine watch more. I actually wrote the pm ready but never pushed the "send" button. Now I'm happy that I didn't. I have worn it many times lately, and enjoyed it.

I think this is a "must have" rep for every Rollie fan. Even if you don't wholeheartedly love the departure of the classic GMT, this is still a stunning replication.
