  1. so whats the difference?

Are you kidding? You already gave the answer to your own question. The font is different.

In regards to the entire watch there are only 2 noticeable flaws. The subdial printing is grey instead of silver on the gen (silver refelects more light and changes in appearance depending on how the light hits it) and the red 'Automatic' writing on the dial is too bright red. There are some other minor anomolies like the rider tab engraving, pearl, bracelet's endlinks and engravements but you need to do a side by side comparison to notice them. Overal it's one of the best reps available at the moment!

  2. Well to confuse the issue even more... I went to the AD today and was told that the "standard" is for the watch to have an entirely brushed case (not including case back). But the watch can be ordered with polished sides. They actually had one of each and I much prefer the brushed case, so mine is going in for a brush job!

    Thanks to everyone,

    CBR

Strange.... In all Chronologs I have both 42 and 44mm have polished sides. I've never seen a new SOSF at an AD with brushed sides.

Some of you may already know that a dear fiend of mine works at an AD so and last night, after soccer practice, I asked him. He told me that the brushed SOSF you saw was a custom job. Every Breit can be customised in regards to finish. You can order a completely brushed NEW BCE but this is not the way they come from the factory. This is done buy the importer of the particular country. So the importer probably brushed the SOSF A. For a customer who changed his mind. B. For the particular AD to ad some diversity to it's offers.

So in regards to authenticity polished sides is the way to go.

    My 0.02

  3. If you buy a gold rep 9 out of 10 you can't polish them as it is only plated gold. Any sort of abrasive will remove the gold. This especially applies to the BCE TT as the gold plating is crap!

  4. I also damaged the AR on my genuine Steelfish and removed it ..... most gen Breits have it removed after some time. If you think about it. They coat sapphire, one of the hardest materials in the world and known for it's scratch resistance with a delicate blue coating

  5. @ ROLEXMAN

Yes some of the newer models they can only be had with either a COPY ETA or a NEW ETA.... but no second grade.

What I'm stating is mostly for older models for instance rolex ETA driven so called 2836-2 offered at a 150-220 usd price range --- that didn't got a significant price raise as the original ETA movements prices went up significantly---, for the newer models the dealers automatically raise it quite high so there it would be "theoretically" possible that you receive a new ETA movement. But then again ---if you cannot garantee how the outside will look when it arrives to the customer than how can you garantee what is on the inside?! --one of the reasons I never dropship---

Rg Rolexman, (or should I say.... Groetjes ;)

Thanks for clarifying my friend. I really appreciate all your input. If it is indeed true the new ETA powered watches are going to sell around that price I will settle for an ETA clone/ franken any day.... $500 is just too much. I rather pay $300 knowing it's a clone/ franken.

So the only problem is the way these watches are advertised?

    E.g.

    $500 watch = genuine ETA .

$300 watch = Second grade ETA or ETA clone.

Our dealers should inform us what quality movement is inside the watch..... sounds good in theory but is this possible?

  6. it's very easy to tell even from across a conference table.

Well noticed flaw but you can't even spot the clowns feet from more than 2 feet. Let alone stand a dot on the tachymetre scale. And I find the date font pretty accurate. You have to do a side by side to notice the difference.

Besides that... Mine does have a dot between 500 and 400! The flaw only applies to the models with a black bezel :D

  7. Well I think this is bad news for the real movement experts/ addicts but in my opinion nothing has changed for the regular collector.

Let me elaborate. In the back of my mind I always doubted if the ETA movements sold in our reps weren't also reps (as discussed many times on RWG I & II). Now that it turns out there ARE some ETA rep/ franken movements circulating it does not matter. All I want is a good functioning movement. I don't care if it's a genuine Swiss-made ETA movement. It has to keep good time and everything has to work as it should. Proper hand-winding, time and date setting etc. I don't service any of my movements as the price of the rep doesn't way up to the servicing costs. If the movement dies I will inform about the costs involved repairing it. If it's too high I will just buy a new watch....

So if it looks, smells and tastes like a banana, to me it's a banana ;)

  8. Come on guys! You oughta know that every rep has a build in flaw. If I had to choose I would choose the clown feet over a misspelling any day! So the OSD rep is accurate as hell up to the clown feet (which is a simple fix if you want to). If every rep which came out was this accurate ... man..... I would be one happy camper!
