  1. it is possible to make a quartz movement with a smooth sweep, but no one does. there have been a few experiments over the years by genuine watch makers and pretty much all have failed. the basic reason is battery life. a quartz watch with a smooth sweeping second hand would have a battery life measured in months or even weeks instead of years. no one wants to buy a watch that they have to change the battery on every month :p

    Strange.

I have a cheap Tag chrono rep with a Miyota quartz movement. The regular second hand ticks but the chrono second hand sweeps............. So if I would keep the chrono running the battery would die within weeks/ months? I find that hard to believe.

  2. Dear all,

I have a friend who works at an AD and he can get me gen Breit Ocean Racer staps and clasp folds. I just want to know how many of you would be interested in either the strap (colour of your choice), clasp fold or both?

I'm sure I can get a nice discount if the number is high enough.

    Retail prices:

    Strap: Euro 70

    Clasp fold: Euro 230

    EDIT:

I can get 20% discount on the strap and clasp fold (total >10). So in this case it's Euro 56 for the strap and 184 for the clasp fold (Shipping not included). But they are on back-order and it will take 4~6 weeks.

I assume the discount also applies for the mesh bracelet.

Regadring the tang buckle. It will not fit due to the construction of the strap.

  3. The Chronomat GT was repped with an Asian 7750.... way way back in the old days. It looked real good IMO. I owned it for a while, but I sold it after an incompetent watchmaker ruined the dial. I still may have some pics. Will post them ASAP (I'm not home right now).

  4. Thank you for you incredibly indept reply about not answering the question. it would have just been easier for you not to be flippant. Sorry for my inexperience, but i think the watch is gorgeous, on or off my wrist. Sorry for not knowing bloody everything about and thanks for crashing down on a new member and making me feel much less than welcome here!

Don't be a smart ass. It will get you nowhere! My answer simply implied that the information you need is available all over the internet, including this forum. Simple Google 'chronograph movement' and you would have known that a chronograph is nothing more then a stopwatch. The regular second hand (which keeps track of the time is located in a small subdial which can't be stopped (unless you pull out the crown making the movement stop... or you're god LOL). The big second hand is activated when the chronograph/ stopwatch is actvated (top button) and keeps track of the elapsed time. When 60 seconds have passed the small minute subdial hand will jump 1 marker (indicating 1 minute has passed). When 30 minutes have passed the hour subdial will have moved one marker. This way each sub dial will indicate resp. passed minutes and hours.

The third sub dial will keep track of the regular time and has nothing to do with the chronograph/ stopwatch. After stopping the chronograph, again with the top button, you can reset all the hands by pushing the bottom pusher(reset). Off course this will not affect the second hand which keeps track of time and there for will continue running.

I hope you feel welcome ............................

  5. I always wonder why people buy a chronograph when they don't even know what a chronograph is...

Beter first do some surfing on what a chronograph is and what the function is of all the different sub dials and hands. Then you will know the answer to your question :

'What is classed as NOT using the chrono'
  6. I'm more curious about what the deal is behind this "Time Shop" and more specifically, their Hublot Big Bangs...

Weird that no one has heard of this dealer before, he seems to be using TrustyTime fonts or watermarks (I guess it's called) on his pictures.

It's an apprentice collector here at RWG.

  7. Ok here's mine but i still use the stock insert wif WM pearl. Looks pretty good to me shipping is quite fast. Sorry for the bad quality pic

Watch looks good. Pearl looks like a zit LOL.

You can remove the insert by first removing the pearl with a sharp razor (just slit it underneath the and pearl pry it out) and then put a flat tip screwdriver in the hole of the pearl and pry the insert out. If you do it carefully nothing will damage. It will take some force as the insert and pearl are glued with a sticky sort of glue.
