Awesome Are you sworn to secrecy about which ones?
Just one movie, and it would reveal too much information...So, yeah on the sworn to secrecy. Let's just say I had 2 very specific cars that Hollywood wanted BACK.

I was an SCCA amateur race driver for many years, so I do like cars.
I also helped build some movie cars that were used in a Hollywood movie.
However, living in the city now, the only time I drive is when I leave the city to go skiiing. For that, my TDi 50mpg VW Golf does the trick. We got rid of my wifes BMW Z4 when we moved downtown. It sat around sucking up money for an extra parking space, and insurance.
My example above was probably a bad example.

I mean, how poor you must be... to think that $2.5K is a lot of money for something that you really love? Maybe if you're a 17-year old student flipping burgers at gas station...
Good point. That is about the same amount of money for an Apple Laptop (Macbook Pro) these days. Plenty of those in just about every coffee shop.

.... Even if I owned a gen most ppl here in OZ would assume it was a *copy* --- I know I do.
You know what they say, when you assume it makes an a$$ out of U and me. (well not me, personally)
It all depends where you live. I live on a pretty good side of town in a major metropolitan city. The rep/gen ratio tips in favor of gen's.
It has been stated here many times, if you are under 21 or young, and get out of your Fast and Furious Honda Civic wearing a Sub or Benltley, then yeah, good chance you are a poser wearing a rep.

I'M BATMAN!!!
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Actually, I sit in this room, and every 108 minutes I have to enter 4 8 15 16 23 42 into an Apple II computer to prevent the world from ending.

P.S. "IT" as well...Successful = true.

I do not want to sidetrack the midweek wristies (too much), but do the case dimensions (especially the height) approximate the 6536/5508? I think that most of the Silix cases are more nearly similar to a modern Sub than these early low-profile case versions. You will almost definitely need a drill press to drill the lug holes.
I posted a brief tutorial early last year, but the basics of my hand aging process are pretty simple (though dangerous since you can easily damage the hands if not careful) -
1. Remove hands from dial
2. Apply Iodine to the lume areas (try not to get too much on the metal)
3. Bake at 550 degrees Fahrenheit until they reach the desired patina
4. Let cool
5. Reinstall hands on dial (note that, like vintage tritium lume, the lume is now rather delicate & it no longer glows)
@Freddy333 THANKS for the diversion, very helpful. I will be PMing you in the future I am sure. I have "extra" hands, I will experiment this weekend with your technique. THANKS AGAIN!

P.S. Please tell me you don't still use Micro$haft Internet Exploader.

The, new to me, ROL187 that I will be using for my franken 6536/5508 project.
Drilling the lug holes will be a challenge no doubt. Additional aging, especially the NEW looking hands.

lol I'm really loving this watch I'm hoping we can find it somewhere....
Google "Seiko Samurai" that watch is circa 2005 so maybe ebay.
If you want a good dive watch for Aruba I recommend this:

A lot of good advice above...
Unfortunately, I just dont have the kind of money that the big dog attorneys are bringing home.Although not clear on your personal financial situation. I would still recommend against a rep. If you can afford a $2,500-$5,000 watch, I say do it. There are a lot of options in that price range. Omega, Rolex, Breitling, Tag, etc. If you can afford up to $1000, there is always Movado, Tissot, and some Tag's. Finally, if you are young and fresh out of school, I don't think anyone would hold it against you to simply wear a "Fashion Designer" watch like a Kenneth Cole.
You can even try gray market sites like www.jomashop.com.
Just my .02,

...
In addition, while I have absolutely no proof of this, I continue to suspect some degree of collusion between the gen makers & major rep factories. The agreement stipulates that the gens will leave the rep makers (mostly) alone as long as they agree never to produce exact copies.
...
I tend to agree with this. This sort reminds of the early days of Microsoft, Metallica, and online 'piracy' in a way. For years Microsoft did nothing to combat piracy. It was not until it monopolized the market that it started to crack down. Metallica helped build its success via the 'bootleg' industry, and more to the point-- have you ever downloaded a song, movie, or software only to later BUY it or in some way SUPPORT the artist???
For some Rep's are like a gateway drug, get you hooked, and perhaps some day you pony up for the Gen.
Lets face it, there are people running around with reps that can never afford a gen, but the more Rolex's fake or otherwise get noticed. It helps keep the name in headlines. Free publicity, no such thing a bad publicity.
Finally, you have people like me who have thrown in the towel for a good GMT rep, 14060 rep, and Navi (can't live with date and bezel #) and OWN/WILL buy the GEN-- shortly I hope.

@Ronin, thank you for the pics on the other note how's the gmt hand on that watch work?
That particular GMT pictured above was from my brother, trying to be nice, while in China. It is a a heap of $%^. The GMT hand on that one just follows along at 2x speed. So pretty much useless as a GMT. I have had it in a drawer for about 6 months and as you can see haven't bothered unwrapping it yet.
By-Tor is the GMT Master around these parts.

The white face SOSF on tan leather has turned me into a believer... Even the Montbrilliant in white.

Here you go, by the numbers, on the POS GMT from Chinatown...
Enjoy.... It did take some pressing down / pressure to grip and turn... I don't care about this particular watch...Just make sure you don't damage the crystal.
Remember to loosen turn left. Anti-clockwise. Lefty Loosey, Righty Tighty....

But it was a Chrono with a Breitling sign AND a Quartz watch.
Also, it could have been a Breitling COLT model. They are Quartz/Chrono.

Agreed, my Aunt has worked at Morton's for years. She has pulled between 75k-90k a year.... She owns a genuine Datejust.

Alright, alright, I was gonna wait til my 100th post, but you got me.

By disengage the watch band (for a quick mod), I mean:
On the bracelet all you need to do is undo ONE side of the clasp. You know the area where you can fine-tune the length. You could probably use a toothpick....
-Ronin

Waiting patiently for mine.
Definitely worth it!
-Ronin

Ball up the tape to about the size of a golf ball.
Disengage the watch band
Lay the watch flat on something that won't damage the crystal or cyclops
Press your ball down with some pressure and rotate anti-clockwise
I just did this on a crappy GMT I am 'experimenting' on.
A bit barbaric... -or get the correct tool.

Sodium....
Do you notice it after breakfast/lunch? SALTY foods can also cause this.
Just a thought,

Love the Tudor DL!!!
Weekend adventures call for:
-
I base everything on what I am doing and where I am going.
- If I am climbing a 14'er (14,000 ft mountain), I am either wearing a Tissot T-Touch or a Sunto 'wrist instrument'.
- If I am going Scuba Diving or Surfing, I stick with my Seiko Dive watch.
- If I am skiing/snowboarding, I usually wear a beater Swiss Army, Sector quartz, or Russian Vostok Auto.
- If I am going to a race event, any of my rep chrono's. (Daytona, Navi, Skyland) maybe my gen Sector.
- If I am bumming around town, dinner, party, clubs, any of my reps are free game. <this is the fun of reps for me>
- If I am going to something upscale, business trip a super-rep or gen.
Buy what you like! There are days when a grab-n-go, dependable quartz makes sense.

Heat will cause expansion.
You might want to chill the case in the fridge/freezer, and warm the bezel (or room temp -vs- cold case). It should come together flawlessly.
