  1. Nice post! I've still got alot to learn about disassembling watches! Love your workstation btw.

Was this to test the water resistance of the watch or the plating?

Thanks! You should check V's post in youtube, you'll learn a lot. The Zigmeister, Geormani, freddy and other members have some excellent post about disaasembly and vice versa! You should search for them! I learned a lot from them and built my confidence to open our precious little things! My main goal of this test is for the plating...., but I'm also happy with the results of my water resistant treatment of the watch!

Next do the famous "run-over-by-SUV" test!

That would be the last test....... :bicycle:

  2. Great Post and coincidently I've just come back from my watch maker who refused to take my money and pressure test a watch for me; perhaps you should offer this service. :D

Did you take all the pics with the waterproof camera?

As I have a similar one and my pics are so poor compared to your shining examples... Could you PM me your camera setting if you get a chance

    Thanks!

    Re: Camera...

Nope! I used the Olympus only for the shower shots...and the upcoming beach/pool/sauna/Jacuzzi test! The rest where taken with my Unbelievable Canon S1000.....sometimes I think it takes better pictures compared to my Nikon D70! Canon I think makes one of the best compact cameras.....

  3. Saunas can kill even water-resistant watches as they heat up metal and force parts apart.

For your next trick, swim with it on. Just regular ordinary swimming. That's a real-world test. :)

Don't worry about the sauna, PUG, we'll see how far it could go! BTW: I might have the chance to do the swimming this weekend!

    UPDATE!UPDATE!UPDATE: THE SHOWER TEST!!!!

But before that, let's get some bath gel on: .................................................BubblesBubblesBubbles:

  5. I'm in the market for a rep PAM. Something in a 44mm size. Can anyone suggest a model and post pics if you have them? Thanks in advance!

"Search and Yee shall find!" I see that you're a noob.......your criteria for a PAM is too broad and covers more or less 90% of the brand! You should narrow it down!

  6. And I think this topic in particular is worth re-printing here (with thanks to chronocentric.com):

So what makes a mechanical watch a "Chronometer" or "Certified Chronometer?"

Fine watchmakers often have their mechanical watch movements individually certified by the Contr

  7. Hi Lani,

I feel for you, man! Some of our members here who are trying to do the right thing have been insulted like you, and I feel bad for you guys! Sometimes I feel like giving up this place, but I can't find any RWGA (AA plenty) in my area! Just hang in there, hopefully, it will get better!

  8. It is a great rep. for a 100 bucks I had to see what everybody on the forum was talking about. But I am very happy with the watch. I was wondering, what movement could you buy to replace the baby rattle movement in these watches? And also, it seems to me that the date wheel is way off from gens I have been comparing. It looks like the font is much thicker and some of the numbers like the 22 and the 23 are a completely different font all together. Is there a way to replace all this?

YUP!!!!!.....buy the GEN!!!! Then swap all the parts! Then sell me the GEN case and rep parts, all for a price of the REP! Just kidding.......but it works!

  9. As what the guide said:

The tweezers are pointing to the crown stem removal button, im not sure of the correct term for this. Press this BUT NOT TOO HARD OR ELSE YOU'LL SCREW UP THE KEYLESS WORKS AND THEN YOUR IN A WORLD OF HURT!!

    7750Stembutton1.JPG

Push this button gently and wiggle the stem out.....it should pop out. Do the same when you put it back.....the only thing I'm not sure about the 7750 is: if you have to have the crown in winding mode or adjusting mode.....I guess it's for you to try! On the manual movement, you do it in winding mode!

    Good luck!

  10. You should wind a manual watch until it can't be wound anymore. There is no clutch, the mainspring is fixed to the mainspring barrel and once you fully wind the spring, it can't be wound anymore. It doesn't matter if it takes you 200 turns on the crown to reach the stop, don't stop winding until you can't wind anymore and the crown won't turn.

You can't overwind a watch, so don't even think of that happening.

No reason to wind slowly, there are no click wheels to damage, and since most handwind movements will run for 42 hours or more, winding every day is fine.

As usual! Ur da MAN, The Zigmeister! Thanks!

  11. Okay, good feedback and a lot of negative comments on my last two strap choices. I really appreciate you not allowing me to make NEWBIE mistakes on my first strap purchase!

So, what do you think of this GeF from TC Strap?

As I said before....I don't think the PAM 253 would go nicely with plain leather or light anything! Just my taste! But then again, since you seem to be into this type of color, who says you can't@! There's always a first.....buy it, put it on.... and see how you feel! Then you decide!

  12. I've narrowed down my 1st Strap purchase to two different straps for my PAM253 and I was hoping to get some opinions from the experts.

They are both basically the same looking strap. I do want to know how you think it would look on the PAm253. What I'm also looking for is your input on what you think the differences are between the Strap Culture Strap and the TC Strap?

It seems that Strap Culture has a cult like following? Is that true or am I reading the forums wrong? While the TC Strap seems more traditional or old school???

    Which is better quality?

Any help you could give me would be GREATLy appreciated!!!! Thanks!

I have a 253 and that strap you have on the picture does not match well with it! Just my personal opinion! The best match for me is:

for casual rugged look, I'd go with a Platinum colored Carbon Fiber:

    PAM253.jpg

and for formal look, I'd go with a black real croco or alligator: http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/y...9_1987_12551886

    or a blue: http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/y...69_1984_2062141

  13. Wow!!! Lots of noobies (hambone/pug/vienna/ken don't count) on RWG now! Amazing! Place to live and learn.........sometimes I feel like doing research here in writing my Thesis entitled "Replica Watches - Everything You need to Know" or "Life of a Replica Watch Collector, from being Scammed....and Scammed Again to becoming an Expert" or "Replica Watch - the Collector's Diary", etc., etc., etc. :thumbsupsmileyanim:
