  1. I'll jump in on that (having changed all front end components on a '94 E34 540i, which is basically the same car).

It's not too bad to do yourself. There's plenty of room to fit the spring compressors. Here are some instructions & tips:

    http://www.nmia.com/~dgnrg/page_27.htm

While you've got things apart, you may want to consider changing some other wear parts, like the control arm bushings, and sway bar links...

    I agree with Avitt...

If you've got the wheels off, you might as well as change the lower & upper control arms, the sway bar links and the tie rods as well. Just make sure to preload the upper & lower arms before fully torqing them down or the bushings will shred (just drop the car's weight down on a jackstand, then torq down tight). You will need an alignment afterwards.

Use this link as a reference for parts: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do

Order parts from www.Autohausaz.com or elsewhere for good pricing.

If you don't want to rebuild the front end, replacing the shocks/struts/springs is fairly easy and straighforward. Just be very careful with the spring compressor. Should take an 1-3 hours to do depending on your tools and skills.

I do most of the work on my E31, but I am lucky to be able to use my friend's shop & tools. If you don't do your own work, by all means find a nice mechanic that will allow you to bring in your own parts purchased from the web. You will save tons of $$$ and you will find it quite easy to maintain and even upgrade your 7-Series.

BTW, you have a lovely car... I miss my old 750.

    Cheers :)

Thanks a lot, guys!!! That's a big help...I'm planning to do these by myself.....been doing all the maintenance and stuff since I bought this car. I plan to do this in Spring! I have it hibernate in the winter! It's still mostly stock, except for the 19" mags and tires that I did in '98! I'll post some pics once I find them somewhere on this darn PC! Color is Navy Blue!

  2. Hi Guys,

So I'm in a bit of a bind here and am looking for some advice. I've started a transaction with (A Supposed Reputable Dealer) and am receiving miserable service since the transfer was sent and left uncollected?! This aside, I have a question regarding reps...namely I want one and am willing to pay, for quality and service.

There in lies the problem, it seems within the rep space there are no guarantees as to the level of quality you will get from one watch or dealer to the next. I've tried to get around this by even going to some of the other websites which have established services such as SwissExperts.net, but it seems that even they are selling Panerai rep's without the Cannon Pin fix, but for prices in excess of 850USD per!!

Can someone from this board steer me in the right direction? I tried to go through a dealer which appeared to have a good reputation among board members and am getting lousy service, is there someone you can recommend who will guarantee a smooth transaction, fast turnaround and a high quality item? Note that I'm willing to pay in excess of 600 or more for a great rep, however these seem not to exist....

Thanks for any help in advance.

    Best,

    Eddie

Goto the dealers area!!! but you could try TTK, Joshua, DVN........

  3. Well firstly i must blame WBK(from repgeek) for this, him and his 'good deals' motivated me to bite the PAM bullet and add this to the other few reps i already own....

Seeing as it was somewhat of an impulse buy i didnt research the model prior but now that i have im thinking its a tad 'fantasy' due to not being able to find the same wording except on a brushed model(PAM36?), but maybe someone here could clarify...

great value and apparently has the swan neck bridge and regulator(not that im 100% sure what that means :g: )

anyway, its also my 1st quick(5 min) attempt at a couple of watch photos until i can put together a light tent, so be kind :D

    And the mandatory wrist shot.........

  5. Thanks, I'd appreciate pics of the Sub whenever you get a chance.

It has been just a little over 24 hours since I synched my 3 reps with time.gov and so far the YM is keeping perfect time! Not even one second off!! I guess I'll learn to live with the noisy rotor with that kind of accuracy. My Beginmariner with the Asian Eta 2813 seems to be losing 3-4 seconds per day, and my TT Sub with the Swiss Eta 2836-2 is running about 3 seconds fast. I guess time will tell, but so far I'm sort of impressed with the Asian 21J in the YM.

    Hey Jr!

Here are the pix I promise, hope it helps!

  6. I have an olympus 7.1 megapixel, still learning how to use it.Thanks for the advice freddy, sounds like I should get a tripod asap..and great pictures of a great watch!

Which model? I have the 770SW and it sucks.....can't compare with a canon....I have both the Canon S70 and S1000 and these babies are great......Sometimes I also use my Nikon D70 DSLR, but I don't have the artistic skills of a lot of our members here. You could have the most expensive camera in the world, but if you dont have it.............

  7. Bought a croc strap from Joshua after I lost some parts in my bracelet. He's sending parts, but thought I'd try a strap. Looks amazing! Couldn't get one of the springbars off, so I took it to a local (non-AD) watch shop. They couldn't believe it wasn't a gen, including the new strap. Bought some extra springbars (better quality). Old one is still stuck in the bracelet, don't know if I'll be able to get it out. Another day, another project.

For now, LOVE the watch on this strap. Here's a pic:

Try it with a black carbon fiber!

  8. See how much I know about NZ.....but seriously.........

phaedo, I don't know how soon you plan to move and I wonder if you already have taken some computer courses or training or certification, but It would go a long way on top of your Finance background and its probably marketable anywhere you go. Most of the office type jobs in the US and probably anywhere requires this.

  9. Hike... I just received my YM from Trusty today, so it's too early to comment on its time accuracy, but the movement did stop and the minute hand moved back a minute or two after I fully tightened the crown. I released the crown a little and it started back up fine.

Have that same action with mine!!! I have to adjust twice and be more gentle the 2nd time around!

Regarding the noise, it doesn't seem to be out of the ordinary.........or maybe my ears are just used to my Chinese Chopard MM XL!!! Talk about loud, this one is a rocker!

I'll post some pix soon of the Black Sub.....just need to crank up the gear sometime......hopefully soon! The watches looks nice from the outside, I mean I can't complain, specially for the price we paid, but what are you gonna use a watch for if it can't keep time???

  10. Hi Freddy!

Where can we get those marine lube or grease for the gasket seal? I'm pretty sure a lot of our DYI Newbies here wants to know? And BTW, the Rolex caseback opener, too! I know about those tapes, but I'm thinking of getting the right tools!

Thanks! As soon as I get those, I'm ready to open these babies!

  11. Once you get a job, you go to the US Consulate/Embassy and apply for a work permit. They'll give you forms to fill out, lots..., and you will have to provide bank statements, that letter of hire from your new employer, references, etc.

A work permit (HB1/L-1) is contingent on you having that job, BUT you can apply for a Green Card later, despite that they say you cannot. My dad did...my ex-Belgian boyfriend's family did (his dad was a professor, which means he was a professional like Phaedo is, so that's relevant).

    http://www.workpermit.com/us/us_h1b.htm

    http://www.workpermit.com/us/us_l1.htm

Get yourself a good immigration attorney once you're in the USA. If Phaedo moves to South Florida, I can very easily recommend him one.

Getting a job permit here today is not as easy as yesterday (before 9/11)! For one thing, your new employer has to prove that he can't fill that position using local labor!!! #2: You can't work without an SS card.....try and get that and see how hard it is.....specially if it's for employment!

PS......I'm also an immigrant (just lucky to have an Irish/Spanish/American for a Dad, but I did not come from either of these countries).......and I know a lot of them (Legals and illegals!!!), believe me it's not easy, but on the other hand, this is America, everything is possible...........for a price!

  12. Not true. You can always drive a taxi, bus or buy a convenience store. I think it is also a prerquisite to be from a foreign country to do customer service for any large company.

You will fit right in in Miami. I hear Real Estate is cheap in Opa Locka and Liberty City....................

Try getting a Visa with that!!!!

Or you could try India and the Philippines, I heard they need Call Center operators!!!
